xoops 2.0

I reinstalled XOOPS this week after not working with it for some time. everything installed fine and acted as expected. I noticed all modules install do show menu but no details in the center content no matter where I placed or config the block.

so then I decided to make my NEWS module the homepage and now I get a 100% blank (white page) at my url:

http://carboncow.net/xoops/modules/news/

I cannot get into config anything!

I may wipe this out tonight and start over, so the URL may change.

any ideas?

xoops 2.0

I just installed a module called: AMS 2.41

something is squirrely with the install. When you view the module before install it shows the verion and module name but no icon. When I then install it, it is moved up to the "installed" modules area but I have a MODULE FILE FOR NOT FOUND! message. I cannot uninstall this then! I have tried to install it twice so I know have to "lost" module installs.

No I have not changed the name of the module
No I didn't change folders in the module

I simply tried to install this as I have done dozen of times with other modules in the past successfully.

Is there a way to manually un-install stubborn modules?

Thanks.
Shawn

Why doesn't module theme follow global theme? (LINKS)

I'm using of the included themes but not the default. Everything looks ans works great everywhere but when I use the included LINKS module things are amiss. If I click on a link in my LINKS module it brings up link with the xoops/links interface at the top that states:

Rate this Site | Modify | Report Broken Link | Tell a Friend | Back to carboncow | Close Frame

...as you would expect but its in the DEFAULT theme which I'm not running. To see my example you can visit website, www.carboncow.net and go to LINK module and the example link for my PHOTO GALLERY will show the different themes getting used.

I'm not a programer so go easy on me if code needs tweaked!

thanks.

thank you very much for this support. I was really thinking this may be it after much reading but I'm still unclear. Obviously if I'm getting 3.x to work then it has to be related to this differnt password scheme.

So if i'm understanding correctly I should:

install 4.x or 5.x
run the command you mentioned
then try to install XOOPS again?

Will changing this password config affect mySQL and other advanced visual managment tools from accessing the database?

Now that I have a 3.x database going and XOOPS will it be a problem to upgrade to 4.x/5.x? and run this command or should I just do a fresh install since there isn't much in that database?

I'm a average DIY tech for our business but have no coding skills nor expereince beyond PHP or mySQL for dummies books! So every decision I make tends to create more questions that I stuggle to find! I've got my website working (see: www.carboncow.net) but I would love to still upgrade mySQL so I can use the great interface for admin!

Thanks.

Shawn

is there any problem with having tables that wouldn't delete after bad install?

i installed xosCommerce which really crashed out my system (i know that is vague!). don't have the patience or skill to get something like that running on my older version of mySQL.

Anyways I though I would reinstall once again after getting it off and it states the tables are already there, cannot continue. I know there are 1001 tables created by xosCommerce so manual delete would not be posible for me.

any thoughts?

Thanks.

any idea why the admin sys still tells me the mainfile.php is still writeable when it isn't?

I know 100% it is not writable on my IIS system.

WARNING: File C:/Inetpub/http_root/mainfile.php is writeable by the server.
Please change the permission of this file for security reasons.
in Unix (444), in Win32 (read-only)

Just curious, not a big deal!

sounds like good info...but since i'm not a developer or an mySQL/PHP expert most of this means nothing to me!

I couldn't get 4.x or 5.x version of mySQL to work but i went back to 3.x and it did work but i hate the "old school" interface.

Can anyone clairify would most of his references are too? are they changes in PHP or mySQL config?

this is what I found in the PHP.ini files, which negates the help above:

;Windows Extensions
;Note that MySQL and ODBC support is now built in, so no dll is needed for it.

thanks. I just get frustrated with all the configuring...

For not developers it would be best if things ran more out of the box with straight forward processes. Install PHP, set permissions, install mySQL, config permissions. Small tweaks and go! Instead the procedures start using mumbo jumbo and starting asking for decisions to be made which have no mean to non developers! but it is there world (developers!)...

I just tried to get Apache running and even that was more complicated then IIS, and I know all no MS guys love to trash IIS and such! Now I have Apache running on another box and the PHP config is way more complicated and over my head then getting it going on IIS!

I'll check out your links and become and expert tonight! Thanks again I'm now done venting!
