Since I've move from 2.0.x to 2.2 final I had massive problems with several modules that act like lemmings.

My problem is that these modules were the reason using XOOPS and not giving up with it ages ago.

I need a patch, hack or something that will cause lines like: "include ($xoopsConfig['root_path']."header.php");" to start working again please.

before the usuall "it works for me"/"it no longer works like that" lines that are common in technical forums I would rather have no answer and assume no one gives a dman then come back to what looks like an answer but is in reality people blowing smoke out thier arse.

I am so super pee'd off with this problem and the spegitti of code that I waided through that there is a good chance my general tone is not the most plesent. Even so this reprisents a superhuman effort not to smash stuff and sware never to code again if I have to look at any more XOOPS code which generally gives my a similar unplesent sensation to being drunk. (if you want to know what's so unplesent about that: ask a glass of water).

My advice would be - don't bother.

I've just upgraded from 2.0.12 which worked to 2.2 final (or whater name they gave it).

I've had nothing but endless problems and broken modules.

It seems that along the way they abandond piles of stuff that left my site a useless mess.

(no offence taken)

I guess I should have said: "We Really Should Have This - It's Cool!"

I guess it might just be a regional thing but I've grown up in an area of the UK where we say "...has to be done" or "you know you have too" etc etc where we mean such or such is such a cool thing how can we not.

(as to my own site, yes it's just a mass of experimentalism really)

I did not mean to cause any offence or be rude (I may have appeared that way) but I found the idea genuinely exciting and felt that this really "had" to be a XOOPS module (as it is a cool idea). I simply wanted to share an exciting find with others that (I hoped) would find it exciting too.

I love the idea that XOOPS might be first with cutting edge new modules.

Does that make more sense?

http://www.aardvarkind.com/ is the home of a well known and well supported PHP free topsitess script that would be particularly sexy as a XOOPS jobbie.

An open source social bookmarking competitor to del.icio.us

http://de.lirio.us/code/
Is the source of the code and below i the story to go with it:

The full Slash Scoop:

[0]comforteagle writes "This past week I launched an open source social
bookmarking competitor to [1]del.icio.us - [2]de.lirio.us. After running
it for a while open to the public it appears to be running relatively bug
free so this is the invitation to the Slashdot crowd. The [3]code is
entirely open and the content is cc licensed, so I'm sure it won't take
too long for folks to cook up some additional tools aside from the
blogging feature. For those not familiar the meme is [4]social
bookmarking, which is basically a service to share bookmarks publicly
instead (or in addition to) only within your browser. There are lots of
other additional benefits, but that's the gist of it. [5]More details
here [6]and here."

This would make for an exelent XOOPS wrapper/convert candidate and would allow XOOPS social sites to get close to the cutting edge.

I doubt I have the skill to do this on my own and so I open the floor to the rest of you guys.

I've been useing a version of a module based on myAlbum (another module) and I've started to see a new error message today:

::Errors occured::
break.gif
==>mimeException

I have no idea what it means. It's been fine with up loads prior to today. Might this be a php issue? How do I find out (knowing nothing about PHP)?

Any ideas?

Thanks.

e-Xoops? What is it and how does it differ.

It has bothered me for too long and I feel it's about time I found out the answer.

(<hint>It'd be good if this was a vailable maybe as an article called "Xoops-Varients: what you need to know" or something </hint>).

What is e-xoops?
How does it differ to XOOPS? Why?
Are XOOPS and EXOOPS modules usable one with the other?
Is there a bench mark of usefullness that would indicate one as being better than the other? Is one better?
Will an e-xoops module work in XOOPS and if not can it be "made to do so"?

Cheers.

Might I suggeest a project (at source forge) called Phaos. I've worked with it already and it is great to develop with. I've added a number of interesting extras myself and to be honest I'm an ASP guy PHP is hard work.

I found a project called PHPMyWebHost or something like that. It was a basic webspace geocities style thing.

I would love to have that available for XOOPS but there might be an additional problem eGroupware (poor) and PHPGroupWare (can you say monolithic pants*?) are the only guys useing it.

However with WebMailFX in public beta that's the only thing I can find other than a wiki port that XOOPS lacks. Makeing XOOPS friggin' brilliant (still).

Does any one know if a Geocities alike project was ever created? I have a basic project under ASP but it will take a while to get working and won't be on the same server as all my XOOPS stuff.

Thanks.

I LOVE MY HOST!

I Love My Host. I hope they never change. I emailed them and they send me a backup that was not even 24 hours old as a tar.gz and so all my themes and modules are on a giant FTP queue waiting for another site to compleate a back-up (only make an error once).

Thanks for the clue that all I needed to do was replace the files. I can now be on line again inside an hour.

I do however have an idea. A small independent page/file(s) that will give you a list of modules (and tell you their status, if missing etc) and themes and tell you if it knows where they came from... it would involve XOOPS noteing themes it has seen and when it last saw them.

It could just be a usefull diagnostic tool. Maybe it would work with "SnapShot of Key data" files (like a form of back-up without the space being eaten up).

Any how thanks I am now on the road to a full recovery even if I do upddate manually in future!
