Ahh then this is good news! That will give me some time to learn postgres, and I wont have to give up Xoops.

Im mostly just being overly idealistic, in that I want nothing to do with SCO and their partners. The SCO lawsuits and the treatment of their customers is not something I want to encourage in any way. Their suits about Unix source code in linux are especially laughable and just reflect poorly on *nix geeks.

With this recent announcementhttp://news.com.com/MySQL+enters+Unix+pact+with+SCO/2110-7344_3-5847453.html I will no longer use mysql. Does XOOPS work with postgres or do I have to look for another cms? :( I really hope XOOPS will work with postgres, Id hate to have to give up Xoops...

There isnt one yet, but Ive kicked around the idea of trying to make one a few times. The problem is, it would have to at least replicate the functionality I have now with a few products all in xoops, and to be honest, there is no way I can code well enough to make that happen. Not to mention other various hurdles.

Here is what my gaming group uses (its not all XOOPS but it works like a charm)

Xoops with Forum, Downloads, Links, News, PM

3e Character Profiler (local copy)http://www.3eprofiler.net

ScreenMonkeyhttp://www.nbos.com/products/screenmonkey/screenmonkey.htm

3.5 SRDhttp://systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/home.html

Team Speak and MSN messenger(to stream webcams) for when we play "live" (some of the group lives in other cities and states)

Hope this helps.

Well the only module difference from now to when it was fast was the removal of phpbb module and turning on newbb....

But I still had all my original files, so I undid the file hacks for phpbb by replacing with originals.

Oops.. yeah I suppose that would be handy :)

I dont know much about the server (I just use a hosting company) I do know that it is running RedHat 7.3 (which is of course EOL, I should ask about that) Since I have a chrooted shell I cant use any of the normal utilities to see just what kind of hardware there is.

MySQL is 3.23.58 PHP 4.3.3 Apache 1.3.28 XOOPS 2.0.5.2

Ill take a look at mmcache, thanks for the pointer

Im looking for any current (2.0.5.[12]) performance tuning docs for Xoops. It seems to just get slower and slower everyday. (Ive already run check, and optimize on the tables)

Ive been messing with gzip and cache settings but nothing seems to be making much of a difference. Ever since I turned off phpsessions the site loads like I broke its leg.. heh.. anyhow, sessions are staying off for security reasons but Id like to get the zippiness back.

Thanks for any input.

If you have shell access to your hosting you can use tar to bundle up all your files and preserve all the ownerships and permissions.

tar -cvpf mysite.tar ~/public_html

~/public_html should be replaced with whatever your site's doc root is.

If you dont have shell access to your hosting, Id put that high on my shopping list for my next host ;)

You wont be able to ftp your directories and files with intact permissions onto a windows system since unix and windows use entirely different schemes. If your host doesnt allow you to have a shell, perhaps you could ask them to tar up your directory for you (with the command above) and then ftp to wherever.
