hi'

Thanks for responses :)

If we kept same module, paradoxically it will take longer:
1 • we need a developer to improve the module used.
2 • we will have to correct and we have to move* dozens of descriptions

we have to move*. Why ? :
- as you can see in my last post, a lot of modules are not at the right place. They are in a main category
- for some modules, order is not consistent. For example, there is sub-category called News... what we can find inside ? Only several version of News module. In my opinion this kind of category should not exist
- for other modules, a new category could be created. Example : there are 30 items into Audio / Video category. Too much I think : two categories (Audio and Video) would be better

Difficult to find a good solution. Imperatives are :
• make it easy for users
• make it easy for admins we will maintain repository up to date
• do not break links in forum and for google

... if someone finds a solution to reconcile all these imperatives, I think it could be a nominee for the Nobel

Nothing wrong with this catalog ?!
(I can't believe it )

... let me know if you think that a category has to be removed, moved or created. I saw on two major CMS module repository :
• Joomla is really simple, too simple if I can
• Drupal is very very good, but maybe too difficult for a newbie

... I strongly believe Xoops can do something very attactive with his repository. But we have to think about a solid organization of the categories :)

---

About module description, I have made a simple html page. We could make it without developments (if we use TDMDownloads at least).

>http://www.babylonbyxoops.net/uploads/POSTS/module-description-page/index.html

> download link if you want to modify / complete

> something very similar is already in place on frxoops.org

... let me know if this kind of page would be ok for Xoops.org ?

hi'

Back to work :)

Thanks for your advices... however about developer name, it will be errors. 0 error will not be possible, because
• information is lacking
• or xoops_version.php file gives false information
• or I make a mistake...

---

now I'm trying to order modules into categories. There are many questions :
• how to make module repository easy to use for visitors
• how to make it easy to update for admins

I think the current directory module is quite old and has enough "experience". We could make a review and try to avoid the pitfalls that make it now quite unusable.

Two points :
1 • module repository is old and many administrators supported its maintenance, with more or less care (this is not a criticism but an observation of a situation that has slowly degraded)
2 • about the organization of repository, we should question the relevance of certain categories or subcategories. Too many categories, too many sub-categories ? Not enough ? Bad titles ?

... put here some "statistics", extracted from repository (duplicated modules are not counted, and we have to add more than 280 missing modules)

My personal observations :
- a lot of modules are in a main category, it makes non sense
- some categories seems to be filled because admins didn't know where to put the module (Miscellaneous category has 53 items, it does not help users). Other are almost empty
- some categories are duplicated (Misc = Other for example) or their titles are too close (Game / Gaming... but may be my bad english ?)
- there is no category for Frameworks, Smarty plugins, hacks, graphic ressources ... all mixed with modules :(

Some advices / observations would be welcome :)

hi'

There are at least two methods :
• Google translate tool (Google translator)
xLanguage module (clic on Download button for lastest version, 3.02)

To install xLanguage :

• 1. install xlanguage module

• 2. modify 1 file into xoops core, include/common.php

Before (around line 152):
/**
 * User Sessions
 */

Copy this lines :
include_once XOOPS_ROOT_PATH'/modules/xlanguage/api.php';
// #################### Include site-wide lang file ##################
if ( !@include_once XOOPS_ROOT_PATH "/language/" $xoopsConfig['language'] . "/global.php" ) {
   include_once
XOOPS_ROOT_PATH "/language/english/global.php";
 }

(I believe it is necessary, if someone has a bette method ... )

• 3. go to xLanguage back office and configure your languages. Exemple of table :
Resized Image

• 4. Create config file (link under table). It will create a manguage configuration file in xoops_data/caches/xoops_cache

So, module should be ready to use. You have to enter manually all your translations. Example :
[en]english text[/en][fr]french text[/fr]

hi'

As Ghia said, you can use Ghost module and if you want something else than /ghost in url just :
• rename folder
• edit xoops_version.php to put same name

Other blank modules :
• dummy (http://www.xuups.com)
• blankpaper (http://linux2.ohwada.net/modules/wfdownloads/singlefile.php?cid=1&lid=35)

Thanks again :)

I hope we will find a solution about oledrion product form...

I have no more idea about it, and as I have no trouble on my own sites (database I have tested is from Cinleo website), I can't replicate bug / understand anything.

It seems :
• not an issue with product_id
• not an issue with wysiwyg editor
• occurs sometimes...

Thanks Ghia :)
Now I will be more careful about random order / default key.

... last-question-about-tables

Even I sort items by product_id, when I export my product table, I have this order :
Resized Image

Is there any danger to clean it manually (in sql file) ?

hi'

Thanks Ghia for response.

So, wrong hypothesis.

I thought the blank page was caused by the cloning of the product. Specifically:
• that cloning causes inconsistent IDs
• when the creating form called an existing ID, this caused a blank page

[off-topic]
Do you know what criteria is active when you display a table in PhpMyAdmin ? I mean without any clic on the top of column. That's strange : when I order product by ID, chronological order (product_date field) is no more respected.
[/off-topic]

Another point :
- XOOPS 2.4.3
- Oledrion 2.31
- No wisywig editor (DHTML area used)
- PHP Version : 5.2.13
- MySQL Version : 5.0.67-log
