Has anyone modified any of the existing themes 'out there' to make them compatible with Internet Explorer 5.X ? I'd like to put a list together.

The following list seem to be ok/reported as ok with IE 5 straight out of the box [EDITED 27/7/04]:

* Imago themes 2 and 5 (no problems at all)
* Easy theme derivatives (haven't tested this myself)
* lucastds02 (including color variants b and c)
* 7-dana clean
* 7-dana round

Previously reported as IE 5 friendly, but actually not without modification: (at least in IE 5.5):

* Karate Redux Blue
* Zaja-X (not too bad, overlap/cut offs are slight)
* Other Imago themes

Thanks

I really like Tiny Event - a very simple but effective calendar with a nice 'upcoming events' block.

Agenda-X is great if events are a major feature of your site and you have a lot of them, but if you only have a handful then personally I think its probably a bit of overkill.

Hi...have a look at your anonymous group's access rights for the sections module, in admin/system/groups

Things I would like to see in a future version of XOOPs:

* Topic-centric organization of content. I think this is already mentioned somewhere - I would really like to see it pursued. It would be nice to be able to tie all the news articles, downloads, links and whatever else together under a common topic, a bit like myPHPNuke.

* Would it be possible to allow blocks to be arranged by topics (for example to be able to create a 'blank' module for each topic) ? That would go a long way to allowing sites to be customised for multiple sections / departments / programmes etc.

* Language. I would like to be able to tag content by language, and then allow visitors to either contribute or filter the site content by the language of their choice. That would enable me to support multiple language-based sub-communities.

This would enable greater participation by people who don't speak my organizations 'official' language, and offer opportunities for muli-lingual people to engage with others who perhaps are not.

* Documentation. Just wanted to say I also see this as an important issue. Perhaps some kind of semi-organized 'community documentation drive' might help motivate people to contribute to the Wiki ? Documentation is something that should probably fall on the shoulders of the whole community, not just the developers.

Set the news module as your start page in admin/system/preferences/general

This might be a completely irrelevant experience (since I'm not using Unix), but anyway: I had a similar problems even though the little green 'all is well' lights were on.

The files/directories that the installer asks you to make writable etc - in my case they were writable by the owner, but not by 'group' or 'all users' - and it just wouldn't go - until I made them writable to all three levels and then everything was fine (I set them via ftp in internet explorer)

Hope that helps somehow.

I think you need to visit administration menu/system/groups/anonymous users, check the boxes for the modules you want them to access and the blocks you want them to see.

Hi

Have a look at the file modules/sections/language/english/main.php

The messages you want to change or remove are in this file in the version I'm using (2.0.5) - lines 9 and 11

Hi

There is a link on the google site somewhere (I haven't got it handy, sorry) which gives an overview of how the google ratings system works.

Unlike some other search engines, Google ignores meta keywords.

Things that google does care about are:
* The name of your page
* The density of keywords on the page (ie the search terms)
* How many other sites link to your page AND the popularity of those sites (a link from a highly rated site gives your site more 'google cred' than from a low rated site).

Other search engines do care about keywords and probably work differently. Since they tend to use the density of keywords to determine the relevance of a page, you should be careful not to duplicate your meta keywords. If you do, some search engines will assume you are trying to exploit this to increase your page ranking - they retaliate by dumping your rating !!

We had a problem with freecontent - found that it was causing an error that prevented us from restoring our database from the backup.

Had no problems with Tiny Content.
