There's a patch file for moving from 2.0.5.1 to .2

Just use that an overwrite the existing files. ***Make backups first in case something goes wrong***.

It is only a couple of files - very small patch.

I just tested on my site usinghttp://www.mrpart.com/backend.php and it worked ok.

If it doesn't work at your hosting site, there is a chance that they don't allow outbound connections and/or the server can't do DNS lookups. You should check with the provider.

Are you making the change to style.css or styleNN.css? The NN one will override style.css.

What is in your mainfile.php?

Check the permissions in your directories. I believe that message happens when XOOPS can't write to directories like templates_c.

Is there any updates on an "official" mod site now that X-mode is X-gone? Or will they just be part of the main site here, from now on?

It's a bug @ XOOPS.org that the devs are aware of and are working on. Same thing happens with Mozilla proper.
