Xoops.org is a site for the users of XOOPS to obtain support and information regarding the technical aspects of the application. Please keep your political and religious views to yourself as there are many people of different religious and political backgrounds here working together towards one goal - A better "XOOPS"!

There are many sites available for you to speak your religious and political views....some of them probably run on XOOPS.

Now, back to XOOPS.

Oh, you meant scalable as in left to right not as in hundreds to thousands of users . Actually, in the terms you speak of it is quite scalable!

I sent the link to your weeding site to my beautiful wife of ten years and she was in tears.

You make me look bad Herko . You've raised the bar in her mind and I guess I better start working on my emotional side a little bit.

Nice job dude! Congratulations to both of you!

2. No, you don't have to use the Forge. CRM is not something for a small audience, but if your only goal is to prot your application to XOOPS, then I'd do that first, and release it afterwards. You can still use the community for advice, help and testing

There are definitely a fair amount of corporate users, myself inlcuded, that would love to see a CRM module for Xoops.

Or, check out the Wordpress module from Obunubu -His news posting on XOOPS has all of the info - Click here

I have used the Wordpress module and it works well and you could make it look relatively similar to the site you posted as an example.

A few months back somebody posted a link to a site where you could get multiple artists/designers to bid on making logo's and other graphics. Anybody know of a site like that where I can get a nice company logo made?

If your network admins create a VPN you should be adequately protected. The VPN basically creates a secure, encrypted session between the two sites that would not allow any other networks or computers to connect to it, thus making SSL redundant. Depending on the way your admins configure the VPN it should not be necessary to create a DMZ although that would definitely be a workable solution.

If you were to have to do it over the internet then SSL would be a must. You could also use rules on a firewall to only allow connections from the other site, although I'd have to say that if you were going through that much trouble then you might as well setup a VPN. One point to consider with SSL is while it does encrypt the user session you are still only a password away from being compromised so you would have to maintain complex passwords to help limit your exposure.

The position you're in is not unlike many people here. You learn the most when you have to do something that gives you that sinkin feeling in your gut and you get the cold sweats. Sort of like when a mission critical server wont boot and you've been telling your boss over the last few months how wonderful your backups are and the only thing between you and the unemployment line is a succesful backup job from the night before....

It seems like you are on the right track and I would really push the network admins to do the right thing and setup a VPN. Stay involved in it and by the sounds of things the next time you'll know how to do it yourself.

As an IT manager in a corporate environement I would be more than willing to offer my suggestions and time to help clarify the goals and marketing of XOOPS as a corporate CMS.

I chose XOOPS as our corporate portal for a number of reasons but the biggest one being simplicity and ease of use. It has proven me right and I am very happy with it.

Having said that, I can think of a couple of items that would make it incredibly attractive to corporate users.

1. Active Directory Integration - There have been a number of posts on this and it is possible to do but it needs to be easy and possible "right out of the box".

2. DMS - A good implementation of a Document Management System is a must and would be very helpful...I know that there is a DMS module availablte and getting better all the time.

3. Permissions - Permissions are workable but not great. Why not build on this and at least promote it's capabilities to a further extent.

I really think Kencmd is on the right track. I would be happy to serve on an advisory board or something of the sort to help gain further acceptance of XOOPS in the corporate world.

@Brash

It sounds like you and I have the exact same job. Maybe our dollar figures are skewed as your talking Australian and I'm talking US $$$. Or maybe it's those freakin high taxes you have to pay down there. Maybe we should import you to San Diego and pay you $800.00 a week net, that would be a bargain. Anyway, if you go through Dell's site and configure a server they add $799.00 US for W2003 server w/ 5 CAL's. By the way do you have XOOPS integrated with AD? I can get it to work with the top level OU but cannot get it to search down through lower level OU's.

@Bradburn

eGuide is used to query your Active Directory(AD) database via LDAP. Every user on my network has an AD acount. In each user account I put in their home phone, cell phone, work phone, position, manager etc.. I then use eGuide to query those accounts. So a user wants to look up Joe Smith. They go to our XOOPS site, click on the the eGuide link and then put in the last name "smith" and hit search. That search returns all of that info from AD.

No more Excel spreadhsheets to maintain a user directory...very popular around here.

Oh, what a great topic...Linux vs. Microsoft, salary of Linux Techs vs. Microsft techs and XOOPS being slow.

First of all if Linux techs make about $800.00 a week in Australia I'm staying put right here in San Diego. I agree with the rest of what you say Brash. They both have their place. I personally run a mostly Microsoft shop with the exception of Netapp Filers (properietary *nix) and my web server running Redhat/Mysql/Apache for XOOPS based intranet.

Xoops is fast and reliable and works great for my intranet. The three apps that drive the most traffic to my intranet are a user directory - Novell eGuide (free on Novells site and works with Active Directory)which queries an LDAP database and returns user info, Autoindex - A PHP script which allows you to present files and folders for users to view and download documents ( available on Sourceforge). Both of those apps are just wrapped in my site using Tinycontent but they look good and work great.

The last app, and quickly becoming the most popular, is RSS newsfeeds. I personally use XHLDwhich is perfect for an intranet site.
