Suggestion: Abandon wf-sections. It's like fitting a lawnmower motor to a Chevy Suburban - they just aren't made for each other. Wf-section was excellent a year or more ago - no slight on wf-section at all. WF-section stopped development some time ago and, if I remember correctly, was effectively taken over for development by the folks at SmartSection which can be found at http://smartfactory.ca/.

Make sure to get the latest version of SmartSection, too. 2.0.15 had some changes that created issues with some of the smart modules. There is a preview of both SmartSection and SmartFAQ out for testing to make sure the 2.0.15 issues are fixed. So, I guess what I'm saying is, go with SmartSection but you should probably wait (I'd imagine just a couple of days) for the stable 2.11. If you can't wait that long, try the preview (knowing of course that it is just a preview). Still, IMHO, the preview will be a darn sight better than WF-sections.

snow77:

You can go to my site and switch themes between my default theme (table-based), fixed, css100, and zetareticuli. I'll try to implement any suggestions you make as I am able.

Has anyone made further progress on any of these themes? I've been playing around with them since the initial post, but Still having problems making any of the themes so they are completely overlap/displacement free.

This is a really great direction to move in, though, and will help XOOPS a lot in the days ahead (I think) if we are able to offer stable cross-browser css themes...

Actually, you may need to delete all the newbb tables. If after you delete the table that christian suggested, and you try to reinstall the module, and it gives another similar error, go back and delete the rest of the tables that are listed as newbb tables in phpmyadmin.

Make a backup first, though unless you don't care if you lose your data.

I'm not sure of the sequence of your experience reported here.

Was your site already installed on the internet/intranet and you edited the files when you upgraded? Or did you edit the files before you installed? I presume you already had a working site? And if it was working, were you trying to upgrade when it quite working?

For myself, I guess that I would try to upload all the core files to your site first, make sure the site is set up and working right before editing the layout/theme/templates/etc. After it's working right and you've backed it up, then begin editing the files. Make sure you get it working as it is intended before making changes. As you track the changes and amke them samll and one-by-one, you'll know where it went wrong and be able to back up. Also, make a MySQL and data backup before making the changes, too. For the moment, though, just getting the core (except mainfile.php) up to your site, loaded and working should get the admin up and running.

It's possible (probable???) I've misunderstood entirely what you're saying/asking.

Wishing you luck.

Let me say, first, that it is a breath of fresh air to visit XOOPS these days and see the degree of collaboration going on. It is so much friendlier and so much more real work is being done these days as opposed to the - well, frequent viciousness - of the past year or so. Threads like this are encouraging to read.

Second, my hat's off to Bender and Hervet for this discussion and for the possibility of improving xoops. I can't wait to see what it evolves into. I think it will be a great, if subtle, improvement and that it will also add value to search engine placement and usability.

I can get you started perhaps:

a) first create the story - the BIG story. Then turn on the BIG story block by going to admin|blocks|the BIG story block and edit it to your liking. If you intend to have the BIG story show each day in the BIG story block, you will need to put a BIG story in there each day, otherwise it will give you the message you saw.

b) Blocks. Go to ADMIN|BLOCKS. At the bottom of the page you can create/edit a block giving it the title you want, etc. Make sure the image will fit in case you are putting the block in a side column. For the picture, edit your picture to your liking and space requirements and then upload a picture using an ftp client like ws-ftp. You'll need the relevant login data to enter your webspace. You can also add images via the image manager (ADMIN|IMAGES).

c) somebody else may need to assist you with that one. Unless I miss my guess you'll need to edit templates to do that (if I understand correctly).

Putting stuff on your site - try to find a tutorial on the use of an ftp server (though they really aren't that hard to use and most of the clients are fairly intuitive). Also, you can put some of these tests, etc on your site using on of the download modules (again, you'll need an ftp client to load the module to your site). But, most of the download modules have an upload facility that will work fine once you have the module installed. Firefox has an ftp extension called FireFtp that is free and can maybe help you get started.

Going to bed now...

I realy like this interface. It looks great. But, I still don't get exactly how I'm supposed to use it. I have never created my own forms. The instructions given seem to say that that is what I do to use this. In other words, I know next to nothing about programming. I can cut and paste code, but not program. What I am, trying to do is, for instance, get colorpicker to come up when I post and article in news. I think it would be a neat and instructive tutorial to show how to do that in the various modules. So far, it's not very obvious to me. Thanks for any thoughts that can be offered in better understanding this.

How is the Protector setup different if php is set up as cgi instead of an apache module? What are the implications for Protector if it is set up as such? In a cgi setup, some of the directives mentioned here cannot be used: Quote:
5) php_flag or php_value can NOT be used in .htaccess files (It will result in Internal Server Error).
quote from Jaguarpc

More and more hosting providers are moving to cgi instead of apache due to the implications for security (no setting of perms to 777, etc). Certainly mine has.

Thanks!

PS Davidl2, nice catch on the earlier edit where the database prefix was posted!

Sounds like some great improvements, especially the formatting elements. The other stuff I'm not sure I need so much on my sites but the formatting for certain.
