Customizing Error Messages and other language

I want to make some simple language changes but can't locate the files.
For example, the message that says "Sorry, you don't have permission to access this area."

In this particular case, the site has 2.3.2b and CBB 3.08. I want to change the message received by anonymous users who try to access the forum.

Are there general rules about where the language files are located or an easy means to find them? Subtle changes to these files are the final touches to customization in my mind, but I'm finding it challenging.

Is there a guide?

Any advice appreciated as always.

Re: 2.3.2b Blocks have switched from centre to right

Thanks.

Turned out to be one block. When I removed it, problem went away.

2.3.2b Blocks have switched from centre to right

I have a site running just fine with 2.3.2b, PHP 5.2.4, MySQL 4.1.22.

Theme I am using is Sprots_k.

Suddenly the blocks that were displaying nicely in the centre where they belong are on the right side and look like a mess.

I first tried updating the system and modules but that didn't fix it. I tried moving the blocks from left to centre to right with no luck.

Uninstalling and re-installing the modules corrects this, but I have MyAlbum 2.88 with quite a number of photos that will be lost if I remove and re-install.

What has likely caused this?

Is there another way to correct the problem?

Is there a way I can ensure that it doesn't happen again?

If I try to delete one of the new fields, I get the message that the field is not configurable and then this error when the page should be reloading:
The requested URL /modules/profile/admin/index.php was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I have added some custom fields to the registration form. Adding a new one is no problem. When I try to edit one, I get a notice that The Field is not Configurable and cannot make changes.

I also find when I try to edit a category, it takes me to the page to add a new category in stead. This is a new problem because I had several custom fields already entered.

I have updated system and user profile modules but the problem remains.

Is there a gallery or image module that will allow users to download the image as well?
I currently have MYAlbum but it does not allow users to download the images.

No worries. I know this isn't a full time job for anyone.

Here is the link to the work I did.

I invite anyone to review what I have done so far and give some feedback. If this is a good path, I'll continue through the rest of the Installation Guide.

You bring up a good point. Maybe we need to determine what the process will be so that nobody is left wondering what the next step is.

I did some work on the installation guide and uploaded it to the Google Group site but haven't heard any feedback on whether this is the right path.

I can provide feedback and editing suggestions on documentation in English. My technical skills are limited, so that is not a bad thing when the documentation is intended for beginners as well as advanced users.

I think the first thing is to know where these documents are going to be stored.

Do we edit a version and save it or upload a new version?

I uploaded the checksum files again and am not noting anything that surprises me.
It does not find the install, xoops_data, or xoops_lib files of course because install is not there, and the data and lib files are moved out of the root.
One language file seems invalid in the 2.3.2b release:
./class/mail/phpmailer/language/phpmailer.lang-fo.php content invalid

But my site is in English, so I don't see the issue there.

Advantages of Text Area vs. Text Field in User Profile

When adding fields to the user profile, are there rules or best practices when deciding between a text area and a text field?

If I want a paragraph of text entered, which is the best choice?

If I want the user to enter a phone number, what is the best choice?

Thanks,
