I just ran te following SQL on one site.

SELECT FROM `*****_userswhere `uname` = `loginname`

Over 50% of the members have used the same characters for both fields during signup.

I think this is a useful "option" for webmaster/moderator UserIDs, but a waist of time for other users.

In your theme there should be title tags that look like this:
<title>....some stuf here....</title>

To have your site's name in there then change the tags to this:
<title><{$xoops_sitename}></title>

To make your site more google friendly you should change it to look like this:
<title><{$xoops_pagetitle}> - <{$xoops_sitename}></title>

PS: Also make sure that the site name has been set in your Admin »» Preferences Main »» General Settings

Anybody?

I'm contemplating changing the template to look like this:
Quote:

<{$block.lang_username}><br />
<input type="text" name="uname" size="12" value="" maxlength="25" /><br />

Any problem with removing <{$block.unamevalue}>

myAlbum-P has the ability to be installed multiple times in different folders.

So the way to achieve what you want is to have 2 installs of the module. One would have unlimited access and the other would be limited by group settings.

There are more than one way to setup your home page. Here's a few ideas.
1) Create a Block that only shows on the "Top Page". This could be a custom block with a Welcome Message or an existing block from one of your modules.
2) Set "Module for your start page" in "Preferences Main »» General Settings"

When I visit my site at Clan Fraser Society of Australia, the login block is preloaded with hex characters.

When I view the page source I can see this:
Quote:

Username: <br />
<input type="text" name="uname" size="12" value="cfbdfcf37612ea1386643a9daca26911" maxlength="25" /><br />

When I look at the template I can see this:
Quote:

<{$block.lang_username}><br />
<input type="text" name="uname" size="12" value="<{$block.unamevalue}>" maxlength="25" /><br />

Why would <{$block.unamevalue}> be pre-loaded with this value?

XOOPS 2.2.3a
PHP version 4.3.11
MySQL version 4.0.25-standard

I just read this at
A small orange

Quote:
Are you looking for a CMS that allows for discussion, a discussion board that allows for a CMS-type portal view, or something even more simple? There are multiple systems available, some of which take more work than others.

If you want something that's easy to setup, that's primarily a forum, but allows a portal-type frontpage, look into SMF. It's not open source, but there's no charge to use the software. Built-in functions allow you to create a portal-page pretty easily (and I think there are even pre-built pages available if you look).

If you want something that's more of a CMS that lets you have discussions, consider drupal. It's a bit more complicated to setup and take some time and work to learn how the system works. Once you do, it does the best job of all the free systems (and better than many commercial systems) of integrating CMS with discussion.

Just don't use anything with "nuke" in the name (or derivatives of, such as xoops) or phpBB. They were all good systems in their time and played big roles in the overall development of such software, but they aren't going to take you too far into the future.

What a crap site layout. Why do people build sites that are WIDTH=800 pixels wide. If you do, have a look at how terrible it looks on a screen that is 1280 pixels or more wide. For goodness sake use WIDTH=100%

just be careful that other modules aren't using blank.gif to really provide another function. if there is then you will end up with your default avatar popping up all over the place.
