i'm not sure what version of the forums you're using, but if you get the latest CBB, you can easily do that in the admin section

this might not help, but you should check your templates. After I downgraded, I got weird blankness on random pages until i switched to a backup template set.

Some people would bite my head off for saying this, but I like game oriented themes with slick graphics and maybe even some flash...totally the opposit of the XOOPS default themes and most themes that XOOPS designers make.

I couldn't care less about dial up users. 99.9% of the people that go to my site are on broadband.

i completely understand why he might want to do that.

Some sites have large files available for download such as mp3, video clips, programs, game hacks, etc. When your site is relatively popular thousands of people come in, download ALL your files and destroy your bandwidth. A post requirement is a way to regulate bandwidth, encourage participation, and turn away people that in my community are referred to as "leechers"... because they won't bother to make a few posts to get access.

Smartdownloads fromhttp://smartfactory.ca/ has this feature built in. For other modules, I think you would have to enter some code into the module's header.

Hello,

My web host has disabled the phpfunction "fsockopen" on my shared server that i need for the paypal IPN in xdonations. my server's php settings

I asked them politely to enable the function but they refused saying "we would have to open it up on the whole server causing a security hole".

I've heard that you can change php's configurations using htaccess.

Is this true? and does anyone know exactly what I'd need to enter in the htaccess to enable this function?

I've been searching around for a couple hours and the closest example i can find is this...

<IfModule mod_php4.c>
php_value include_path ".:/usr/local/lib/php"
php_admin_flag safe_mode on
</IfModule>

If anyone can lend me some advice, it would be much appreciated. I would like to avoid finding another host because I've already pre-paid for the year

Thanks,
Mantooth

You could insert a few lines of code into the module's header to do that. I don't know php, but it would be VERY easy for one of the module developers to show you.

if you find anything out, let me know because i would like to do that on one of my modules also.

i've been wanting something like that ever since i started using xoops!

it seems like any security problems wouldn't be that bad as long as you had special groups that couldn't be touched, like "webmaster" and "moderator".

or it might work if module administration could be done by either group or rank. but i guess a lot of people who didn't want the feature would complain about it being there.

thanks for the help. i've politely asked my host if they could enable the fsockopen function. Even though they'll probably say no, i figured i might as well try.

once i hear back from them, i'm going to look into using libcurl. but i have almost zero experience with php, so i'll probably just end up switching hosts.

i'm hoping i can get something to work besides fsockopen because i think a lot of people have the exact same problem with xdonations and don't even realize it like in this thread
