Upgrading a 2.0.13 to 2.2 RC

1. Some of my custom blocks got deleted when I updated the System module.

2. Receiving an error message form the update of System module:

Quote:

.................................................
Field actkey added to the database
Field last_login added to the database
Can't DROP 'PRIMARY'; check that column/key exists
xoops_module_update_system executed successfully.

3. Although, I had turned on PHP Debug on before the upgrade, now it seems to be off. Nothing is selected in the debug settings in General settings, not even off.

4. Extended Profiles:
4.1. Appears to be installed yet there isn't a link to set its preferences in the Preferences menu. Updated the module.
4.2. As reported before some of my settings (at least those that were different from the default XOOPS installation) were not inherited from the 2.0.13 installation. Those are:
- Minimum password length;
- Allow custom avatar upload?;
- Avatar image max width (pixel);
- Avatar image max height (pixel);
- Avatar image max filesize (bytes);
- Names that should not be selected as username/displayname;
- Notify by mail when a new user is registered?;
- Display Disclaimer;
- Disclaimer Text.
4.3. On General Settings and User Settings in Extended Profiles Preferences I see those warnings:

Quote:
Warning [PHP]: main(D:/hristo/xampplite/htdocs/phantom/class/xoopsform/formselectlist.php) [function.main]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in file D:\hristo\xampplite\htdocs\phantom\class\xoopsformloader.php line 38
Warning [PHP]: main() [function.include]: Failed opening 'D:/hristo/xampplite/htdocs/phantom/class/xoopsform/formselectlist.php' for inclusion (include_path='.;D:\hristo\xampplite\php\pear\') in file D:\hristo\xampplite\htdocs\phantom\class\xoopsformloader.php line 38

Same on /modules/profile/edituser.php?op=avatarform page and a lot of other pages.

4.4. There are users without Displayname.

4.5. In Admin >> Extended Profiles >> Users >> Edit User the Select User drop-down menu is empty. Clicking on list and in the new window in User list there are lots of users represented by their uid.

4.6. Trying to edit a user from their userinfo page. Clicking on the 'Edit profile' sends me to a 'System configuration' page. The Webmasters group does not have a system admin right to Edit Users. Trying to give those rights to the webmasters group from Edit Groups but this setting is not saved.

5. On edit groups page:

Quote:
Notice [PHP]: Use of undefined constant XOOPS_SYSTEM_USER - assumed 'XOOPS_SYSTEM_USER' in file D:\hristo\xampplite\htdocs\phantom\modules\system\admin\users\xoops_version.php line 44

The one in Protector is the same one as the one in the prefs. So the syntax is the same and you can enter IPs in either.

If you are trying to accomplish this through smarty you should set the locale in class/smarty/plugins/modifier.date_format.php

In 2.0 there isn't. You'll have to edit pmlite.php I'm afraid.

I suppose it's not bad. But... then... if my username is not outright visible for those who have the powers...

Let's think of another scenario. I'm breaking the rules of the site here. In comments/forums/whatever else has a userside. In hundreds of small ways. You send me a note to stop.

The site is quite lively so you can't remember who is doing what or keeping an eye especially on 1 specific user. So I lay low for several days, make perfectly reasonable posts... and change my display name and start misbehaving again.

And you send me a note again instead of banning me. And again... But if you can see outright my username then you would be able to ban me right ahead on the second occasion. What do you think?

Wow. It seems that hiding the username and using a changeable display name instead can be quite a fuss. But I think it is useful because of: user privacy, added layer of security, being able to change your display name when you are tired of it... Actually, in the past I have been asked by my users for a similar functionality.

Just my... hmfhm... 2 cents. I suppose that other people could have different views on the subject. Lets hear them too. Maybe, this deserves a thread on its own and a more serious discussion?

I think it is the best thing to have Real Name as "Display Name" and the Username only used for login purposes

Sounds reasonable. But I still think that some groups should be allowed to see the username on the profile page. The reason is user 'trackablity' (just made up that word ;). Yes, the uids are unique but... we aren't very good with remembering numbers.

The 'Display name' should be unique. Why? Because if it's not I would be able to change it to let's say Mithrandir. Then there will be 2 of us. Then somebody will follow my example and then there will be 3 of us. Faster than you know it there could be an army of Mith's strolling around the forums. :) So who would be who? And if webmasters or other groups (such as mods) don't see our usernames how will they know whom they issued a warning and whom not?
A setting in the module's preferences would be alright for me... Although I suppose there would be quite a lot of people who won't see this setting and start asking for help on the forums here. Perhaps if it is as a setting it should be turned on by default?

Another request concerning usernames. In the comments system to add above the avatar (or below) a field which shows the username of the user only to those who have admin rights for comments.

Another suggestion. At the preferences to have an option to set a theme as a default for all users. Just the way it was in the 1.3 series.

Continuing...

Quote:
1. On the register page the disclaimer is missing - Check Preferences->Profile->General Settings.

Didn't have an 'Extended profile' in Preferences even though the module was installed. Updated the System module but no use. Updated the 'Extended profile' and at last it showed up in the menu. 'Display Disclaimer' is set to 'No' and the disclaimer text box is empty. The 'Notify by mail when a new user is registered?' is set to 'Yes' but before the upgrade was set to no.

5. Extended profile module settings
5.1. In General Settings the line 'Minimum posts required?'. Required for what? If it is for avatar upload then I think this should be moved to User Settings.
5.2. The values for:
- Minimum password length;
- Allow custom avatar upload?;
- Avatar image max width (pixel);
- Avatar image max height (pixel);
- Avatar image max filesize (bytes);
- Names that should not be selected as username;

that were used before the update to the nightly version are not there. Instead the default XOOPS ones (I think) are used.

5.3. 'Enter names that should not be selected as username' - erm... is this still valid? Shouldn't this be Real names? Or perhaps have one for usernames and one for real names?

6. As a normal user I was able to change my real name to be the same as someone elses.

7. Decided to post this request about user trackability in this thread as well 'Webmasters are not able to see the username of a user when visiting a the user's profile page. I think this info should be available to webmasters. I would like also to be able to assign this right to some groups in my site.'

Oh, *****. I forgot to post what's my environment last time. Using XAMPP Lite 1.4.14 (Windows + Apache 2.0.54 + PHP 5.0.4 (without PEAR) + MySQL 4.1.12).

Using the current nightly build (29 June). But instead of creating a new installation decided to try at as an upgrade from a 2.0 version. Decided to post the odds I'm seeing after the upgrade here:

1. On the register page the disclaimer is missing. And I had one turned on. Can't find it in the Prefrences too.

2. With the default theme comments look disturbing. The comText div overlaps the comUserdetails div. So only parts of the user block on the left of the comment can be seen.

3. Problems with the PM module:
3.1. When going to inbox in the PM module I don't see all of the messages that I should have there. Clicking on the PM that is at the top sends me to reading the actual first message which should have appeared there and the link to which appears somewhere lower.
3.2. Messages in Inbox and Outbox are sorted rather strange. Not by date, username or subject. Could be somehow connected with problem 3.1.
3.3. On the Lookup User search box it states: 'Search By Username'. A bit misleading as the search is performed by Real Name.
3.4. Messages received from users that have not filled in their Real names appear as received from Anonymous. Can't send a PM or reply to those.
3.5. All links to user profiles everywhere in the module are broken. Those point tohttp://myxoopsinstalation/modules/pm/userinfo.php?uid= instead ofhttp://myxoopsinstalation/userinfo.php?uid=
3.6. When trying to send a PM I'm returned the following: 'Error: None'.
3.7. I have quite a lot of messages in Outbox. The messages that were sent before the upgrade. What will happen if I delete one? Will I delete it from the Inbox of the user who has received it? Just wondering. Havent tried it yet.
3.8. In outbox instead of showing to who the message is it shows from whom is. Both when looking at all messages or reading a particular sent message.
3.9. When reading a sent message the breadcrumb above it shows 'Profile »» Inbox »» subject of message' instead 'Profile »» Outbox »» subject of message'.

4. Userinfo page:
4.1. The field which should contain PM link is empty. I have given right group permissions.
4.2. Using the default theme the block with the all the userinfo is positioned left instead of centered. Just looks a bit... strange.
4.3. The link that is entered in the Website field appears as a text and not as a link.
4.4. I think that it is more logical for the Signature field to appear below all other fields.

1. But I actually can't allow all of the 7 Erin's posting comments, etc. under the name Erin. I hope I'm saying it more clearly this time.

3. I suppose this could be made as a hack too. But I think this should be part of the core. Or the user management would be quite hard. In the long run webmasters and mods in a community would start forgetting whom warning notes were sent, who tends to misbehave, etc. if those users change their usernames constantly. I think this option would make keeping track of users easier.
