Beyond compare is the best. I searched a lot and i didn't found anything that comes even close to it... Stick with the 1.9 version that is (almost) free... It's even better than the rest...

Why don't you chill.

THese are public forums, and you aren't the only one interested in this topic. Look at the number of people who are following this thread.

I was merely suggesting and alternative, not specifically to you. Did you see your name on it?

I am chill - we are having a conversation here... :)

I know that these are public folder. You have only to take a closer look to see that I was the one that started this thread and you can easily spot that the thread is titled "Advanced Downloads Module". So, we are talking about a XOOPS module of course, not some third party solution. We are also talking about something close to the Downloads module and of course that it is more advanced than the current one... right?

It's good to be suggestive my friend but on more generic threads. Being suggestive on threads like this, you just mislead novice users. Not everyone is a XOOPS expert in here...

Kostas

Why are you taking this thread off-topic? This thread is about an advanced downloads module - MyDownloadsRC by Catzwolf to be exact. I think that any other requests should belong to a new thread...

Ok, Catzwolf... great work you are doing here. Let me give you another point of view.

At first, not every XOOPS site is using the MyDownloads module to host paid download code snippets or scripts. We are a humor community portal that are going to use this module to take submittion of videos/games/sounds etc. by our users and then we will check those submitions before releasing them to the community. I am sure that many other sites are using MyDownloads to share very different kind of files also. I am mentioning this so to remind you not to make the module strictly as a paid script hosting module - it should be flexible...

At second, while i was testing MySownloadsRC2 i found some other bugs that maybe you should also take into account.

1. Text for the front page was hardcoded and could not be changed (the text under 0-9, A-Z).

2. When someone clicked on a link from the frontpage block, the screenshot was not shown.

3. There was no way to view the full screenshot - only the thumbnail.

4. Category image is hard-coded to 50px height. This should be customisable

5. Platfrom and License should be selected from a precofigured drop-down box

If you can take a request, i propose to make a "Download of the day" Block where a site can show the Latest/Random download with the thumbnail and the description text visible. This can be used as a teaser on the front page and i believe many sites would like to have that functionality...

A final word from me... I think you are doing a great job for the community and all of us. My congratulation for what you have done by now. Keep up!!!

I am veeeery happy that Catzwolf got his hands bak on this module. I know it should be easy for him to fix it and -judging by his work on the RC version - he will make a great module of it!!!

The bad thing is that the two changes you mention here Catzwolf are not working. I made them, i reapplied permissions just to be sure but anonymous users are unable to see downloads. Maybe there is something more r maybe you fixed something else on your MyDowloadsRC version.

I'm willing to help in case you need someone to debug your module. Please let me know...

You can find the test installation of your module here:

Hey mikeh and carnuke, nice try but far away from what this thread is about. We are not looking for way to upload files to our server here - we are looking for a decent downloads module like MyDownloadsRC

Uploader is crap as we mentioned earlier in this thread so... you have to try harder

While i was looking around at the forum, i passed by this post here "Lykos Syndication FIXED!!!", where a XOOPS friend that made some nice changes to a module, just tries to find a place to upload it.

You see? Everyone needs this functionality - even YOU here at Xoops. A user may complain for something that is not functioning but not for something that is missing. He just learns to live with it and tries to find other ways to do his job. But if you give users more functionality then he will be happy and he will be shouting for the way that XOOPS works - think of it...

One other question - why isn't such a feature regarded as being higher in the priority list of the development team?

This is exaclty what i was wondering too... Almost every XOOPS site out there is using the Downloads module - that means that this module is one of the most criticals and most needed modules for the XOOPS community. I'm also sure that more than half of the XOOPS users would like to have the upload ability instead of just having to search and link files to other places.

I think that if Catzwolf or someone else, just pick up the MyDownloadsRC module and remove the Permissions thing, the module will then be ready to be used as the first stage of an Advanced Downloads Module.

Hey, just someone remove the permissions. No coding, not anything. Uploading works like a charm at that module. Can someone do that? Can someone point me a way to try and do it myself?
