I seem to recall from a couple of years ago (mayeb even three) that this was reported as a bug (by me I think) but I think it was fixed sometime after that before it was taken on by the Smart Factory. But perhaps it still raises it's head under certain circumstances? Have a look in the bug reports page if it goes back that far.

This sounds like a module specific block. Which module?

Edit your block, and then beneath the text area box there's a drop down menu that specifies the formatting of the text within the textarea. Set it to 'HTML'. See if that works.

Thanks for all the suggestions here guys. I had tried all of them already though . I've built a few XOOPS sites now and experienced (or suffered) the white page issue a few times, and knew many of the troubleshooting suggestions. This is why I was so very stumped.

However, having said all of that, I don't think it was anything to do with the theme itself because I tried with another theme and I had the same problem.

In the end, I logged into my server via ActiveX controls and edited the theme.html file physically on the server rather than uploading it. That generally seemed to work, although, bizarrly, on one or two occasions it happened again but I think that was me getting code wrong!

In addition, some hours later, I started to get problems uploading a gif. The file was there, but when viewed (even via the ActivX log in session) the file was empty. Very odd. I fixed that by logging off the server, rebooting my own laptop! Then it was fine.

Basically I think the problem is related to the FTP connection somewhere. I have a WPA encrypted wireless connection going to a router that is then encrypted with sFTP to the server. I suspect that somehwhere along the line something is getting corrupted. Brashquido and I (who share the VPS itself) may need to get our heads together when he gets back from his globe trotting adventures!

In summary, I don't think it has anything to do with the fine theme developed by Snow and his merry men. Apologies if it came across that way, but at first, that is how it seemed to me before I was aware of the other potential problem with the FTP.

Thanks again folks

Regards

Ted

Yes. It first happened after a fresh install of 2.0.13.2, I then left it for a while (my Dad was too busy to provide me with the material about his business so I had nothing to do) and then upgraded it to 2.0.16 the other day and problem persists.

It's such a bizarre error I'm finding it really frustrating. Why would a theme work out the box, but then not simply by changing one value? It can't be anything to do with the FTP because the fresh theme works fine after it has been FTP'd up to the site so so should the edited file.

Weird.

If anyone has the time, I'd really appreciate it if they could download blue_shine onto a test site or something (I haven't got my standalone setup with web server or virtual machines yet) (from here)), edit something, and see if it happens to them.

Cheers

Ted

the starting "<tr>" tag is missing

That was just an omission of the selection for copy and paste. The tags are actually the same - thanks for pointing that out though, and yes, it shouldn't render a white page.

I hadn't tried a different browser but that won't make any difference anyway. Different browsers will effect the way things are rendered in some cases but not the difference between showing entire content and not showing entire content.

Editing tool : Notepad

Code :

Before editing :

<tr><td><img src="<{$xoops_imageurl}>images/logo.gif" alt="" width="468" height="60" /></td></tr>

After editing:

<td><img src="<{$xoops_imageurl}>images/logo.gif"[balt="Providing ADR training throughout the UK" height="80" width="350">[/b]</td></tr>

Editing of Theme.html results in white page

I am attempting to use the 'Blue Shine' theme for a new site I am building. The theme works fine 'out of the box'.

However, whenever I edit ANY value in the theme.html file and re-upload it as part of the usual customisation of your own websites, I get the white page problem. In my case, all I am trying to edit is the height and width values of the logo and I have replaced the default logo.gif with my own logo.gif. But whenever I re-upload the edited theme.html file it goes white again and I have re-upload the original to get the site to work again.

Having spent hours on this and reading all the usual 'white page' FAQ's and forum threads, I'm no clearer. Many of the suggestions either do not apply to my case, or they don't work. I've done all the usual deleting of templates_c files, clearing browser cache etc. And yes, I have the 'Check templates for modifications?' set to yes.

What makes it worse is that the debug mode in XOOPS 2.0.16 does not appear to generate anything so I can't debug the problem with an error message. I've tried inline and popup styles. (It also happended with XOOPS 2.0.13.2 so I don't think it's an XOOPS version issue).

Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Thanks

Ted

That's exactly the same problem I had. Loads of mssing graphics. I might try again in the future with what has been explained.
