Metoo want to change the color of newbb, especially of background for categories, because they are too dark - as you can see here:
http://66.195.17.52/~vobe/html/modules/newbb/

I found out, that this color must be definded in /theme/style.css (not in newbb/css), because using the default theme and changing values:
.head { background-color: #E2FFD3; padding: 3px;}
.foot { background-color: #E2FFD3; padding: 3px;}
.blockTitle {background-color: #E2FFD3; color: #666600; padding: 2px; font-weight: bold}

result of changing values in default style.css
http://66.195.17.52/~arm/html/modules/newbb/

Remaining problem: I cant find the corresponding values in the E7 style.css (Copyright © 2004 by eirenicon l.l.c. | Site style derived from the original design by 7dana.com).
http://66.195.17.52/~arm/html\themes\e7\style-org.css

Does somebody know how I can define a lighter color for the "category bar" in newbb?

Hi jegelstaff,

I followed your link and read that newbb hack does not work with newbb 2.0.2?

Then I would like to know if the functionality of "private forums" is already incorporated in newbb 2.0.2.

regen_r8 told me to consider installing newbb 2.0.2. So I thought that it is possible to built "private forums" in newbb 2.0.2 as well. If that is not possible I have to install newbb hack again.

This is really confusing, maybe somebody can straigthen this out.

best regards asche

PS: Thanks jdseymour for the great tutorials describing "update procedure". What I didnot understand is, if I can do a fresh install with newbb 2.0.2 (or only update possible)?

Anybody looking for "additional forum functionality" with newbb (as I enjoyed with newbb hack from regen_r8 so far) should also think about looking for newbb 2.0.2 on dev.xoops.org (thanks for this info regen_r8, it saved me a lot of time searching -> would be glad about "comparison of features").

greetings asche

PS: Anybody for searching german langfiles for newb 2.0.2 can read my question on www.myxoops.org

PPS: Where will I be finding info about uninstalling old newbb (or is it just acticating/deactivating in modul admin?)

Does anybody know the last version of newbb hack and where to download it? I cant find it in modules nor inhttp://regenerateweb.net.

Also I would like to know if latest hack is compatible with XOOPS 2.0.10?

This hack is very important for my forums and I would love to get some uptodate info.

Example:
I am building two forums on www.schauer-domain.de:
Forum 1: one for my mother plus children
Forum 2: one for my father plus children

Some people might think, that it is better to build two different sites for divorced parents. But I rather build 2 private forums with newbb hack and have all of my family on one site (not romanticism but pragmatism).

Maybe somebody knows how to build a "uptodate private forum"?

Having started this thread being doubtful of "consistency" of fast growing company with "subsidiaries", I want to post my newbie experiences (I have no comparison) so far:

Surpass is great in support and very responsive. So it is easy to discover the possibilities/advantages of "cpanel-reseller-account" (even I am not a commercial reseller), having good support if trouble occurs.

What I enjoy very much, that surpass responded quickly and opened a forum specially for Xoops-users (thats raising synergies in many ways and assures support among "surpass-xoopsies").

What I dont know about is "performance in a virtual host environment" (there is no traffic on my pages).

In the end, I am a "very happy newbie" on surpass hosting and can recommend surpass for "my sort of requirements" warmly.

best regards asche

PS:
If surpass manages to allow/supply better tools for remote administration of database (better than phpadmin -> doesnot allow to display results of really big queries in result window -> thats the way I transfer tables and data between different databases, just saving results to textfiles), I will post a thread "fans of surpass" ... ))

yeeaaaaaaaap, thats it, you are right with the paths:

I set root path to:
/home/**yourusername**/public_html/html
and the url path to:
http://www.mobilfunk-volksbegehren.de

and the links are all right now (paths looking for dir /html/ instead of faulty /html/hml/), so that I can login successfully. This only works for my domain with manual XOOPS install.

The other domain, where I have installed XOOPS via cpanel and fantastico, also works fine with the paths now, but still cant find the theme (I cant see the XOOPS-colours), which is database related according to a surpass forum posting (I still think it is path related).

Because of all this mess with my two ways of default installations I asked surpass to delete both accounts).

If the path problem (paths looking for dir /html/hml/ instead of just /html/) occurs again after manual and fantastico installation, I will post a new thread "Xoops installation" -"best practices".

Just an example -> Looking for install guide I ended up onhttp://docs.xoops.org/modules/xdocman/index.php?doc=xu-002&lang=en with guide from 2003 which did not give me any help. As a beginner, I for sure would like to know, if I can upload tar.gz or (and uncompress on host) or (uncompress locally) and upload the files afterwards. Also I would like to know, that the files are uncompressed in dir /html/ which might be causing trouble (a) trouble path, b) trouble theme).

thanks blue nova, best regards asche

Now I tried the upload and install method (not via cpanel with fantastico) and I still have a similar problem.

When I call my website:
http://www.mobilfunk-volksbegehren.de/
the installation page is displayed again.

I suppose that my XOOPS installation is not recognized all right, because in index.php it says:

/**
* redirects to installation, if XOOPS is not installed yet
**/
include "mainfile.php";

Does that mean, that my mainfile (which is in directory html -> this directory is created by default when uncompressing tar.gz file) is not found, even I can see it in dir / www / html / ?

One confusing thing:
I put tar.gz in /public_html/ and uncompressed -> but there is no html directory in /public_html/.
Finally I found my html dir installed in dir /www/ which is parallel to /public_html/.

Anybody knows why the Xoops-2.0.10RC2.tar.gz file was not uncompressed into /www/htm/ and not into /public_html/htm/.
Is it something special with the provider?

thanks bluenova, I edited mainfile.php by removing html-directory 2 times.

Now I receive error:
Warning: main(/home/mbf/public_html/include/common.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/mbf/public_html/html/mainfile.php on line 97

I believe that XOOPS is installed in html-directory allright, because mainfile.php and rest of xoops-file is there (name of dir was not a problem in prior installs either). In surpass forum, somebody said, the problem is in database without being more specific.

So I will upload and install as you suggested.

greetings asche
