Thanks ghia,

I do think these are manual registrations. I have changed to webmaster approval of new registrations but one yesterday fooled me. It looked genuine, although it used a gmail address containing a trailing number. That makes it suspicious but I know many people whose email addresses contain similar numbers. Anyway, I approved it and today got a large batch of spam messages. All come from the same IP address, which I could block. The problem is that the IP could be spoofed and I might be blocking the wrong person.

Reactivating this discussion I hope.

Recently I have been getting spurious registrations again, despite having both reCaptcha and Peekay's referrer hack on my site. These folks typically register then post a series of messages to the forums (cbb) containing advertising material.

The most recent one, after registering, posted a series of messages that contained text from previous posts in the thread, and included a URL to their site.

I am wondering whether some bots have found a way around both the reCaptcha scheme and the peekay hack or whether they are simply manually registering.

Previously I had some help from you guys looking at the logs to analyze how the registrations were done. I'm not a good enough programmer to reliably determine that. If anyone is willing to take a look I can supply the pertinent log information.

In the meantime, I've switched to requiring webmaster activation. Bit of a pain but no more so than having to delete a long series of spam posts, which also irritate our genuine members by sending out notifications.

Do I keep the same directory name (wiwmod) or change it to simplywiki?

Can wiwimod be updated to simplywiki? I am also having problems with wiwimod under Xoops 2.4.4. For one, the edit button doesn't work and, in admin, if I click on a link to a wiwi page it doesn't come up.

So, I'd like to try updating.

mboyden,

I'd like to try this on my test site. Can you be a little more specific about where to find the fix? I have downloaded formulize but what do you mean by "read through it" - do you mean the docs, the code, or??

I'd really appreciate a pointer to where to find this fix.

There is a bug in the search function in the profile module in Xoops 2.4.4. If one does a search that results in more hits than are shown on the page, links to additional pages are shown at the bottom of the results page. However, if one clicks on a subsequent page the result shown changes from the original found set to all users. So, the number of pages of hits might, for example, jump from 20 to 200, depending on how many users are on the site.

I recently found that there was a similar bug in the search function for the Lexikon module. That was fixed for me by zyspec.

Incidentally, I still think the way date fields are auto-filled in the profile module is a real problem. They get auto-filled with a date in 1969 so when entering a new user one has to page through multiple years and months using the drop down calendar. It would be better to have a null for the default entry and have the calendar default to the current date.

Allowing html in "non-html" fields

I'm hoping someone can advise me on this. Is there any way to induce a field that currently does not accept html to do so? Specifically, in the Lexikon module, the text field called "term" does not accept html. The field called "description" does (and uses a wysiwyg editor). The reason I ask is that some of the keywords that I have to enter into the term field contain special characters, such as umlauts.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

I'm no programmer, so I can't answer that. The code that generates the wrong date format seems to be this, in post.php and in admin/event.php:

// If the date format is wrong

if(!preg_match('`[0-9]{4}-[01][0-9]-[0123][0-9]`',
$_POST['event_start']['date']) ||
         !
preg_match('`[0-9]{4}-[01][0-9]-[0123][0-9]`',
$_POST['event_end']['date'])) {

redirect_header('index.php'3_MD_EXTCAL_WRONG_DATE_FORMAT."<br />".implode('<br />'$GLOBALS['xoopsSecurity']->getErrors()));
         exit;

This seems to simply test whether the numbers used in the date are correct. That shouldn't be causing the problem.

I have been working on the assumption that the problem is in the way the date is written, either 2010/2/14 or 2010-02-14 but manually entering it in either format produces the error. I'm beginning to wonder if this might be a field type mismatch. In other words, when one uses the drop down calendar, does that enter the date as the same field type as when one types it in manually? Using the drop down calendar is the only way the date will be accepted.

BTW, I posted this twice inadvertently so deleted the content of the previous message. This one was clearer.

As does extcal, as we've been discussing in this thread.
