I think that the council is supporting the process that has been outlined (at least, they are credited as contributors to it). It's worth noting that the OP suggests the current council should be dissolved and reformed by elected representatives of the teams.

As I understand the role of this proposal drafting committee, everything is up for discussion - including whether there is or isn't a project manager, what they should do and how they should be selected etc. Nothing is set in stone at this stage (if I find out that it is, I will certainly let people know about it!).

I agree the foundation and council (assuming there will be one!) need to work together. Exactly how is probably another issue that this drafting committee should look at. There are some good models from other projects. From what I've seen most of these try to distance such entities from politics, involving them in 'councils' or whatever but with restricted or absent voting rights.

Anyway, until have a draft proposal in our hands everything else is hypothetical! Lets set up this committee and try to put a draft together - then we will have something firm the community can discuss!

The important thing is that for the first time, we have a process underway that will allow community members to have a say in how the project will be run in future.

I think it is also quite encouraging that so far everyone is talking about a new management structure where leaders are elected, and where management of the project will be by groups of people (as is the case in nearly all modern organizations), rather than by individuals. That's a pretty big step forward.

There are a lot of different views about how the project should be run and that's fine. The main thing is that we need to find a way that we can have an orderly discussion about it. That's the goal of the OP and one of the key jobs for this proposal drafting committee.

I agree that it will not be easy but at least we have a way forward. I think it will work if there is a sincere and transparent attempt for community engagement, because bottom line is that people do want to see the project succeed.

If we don't try, failure is guaranteed. So, lets give it a shot, there's a lot to gain and nothing to lose.

Ok I'm willing to contribute to the drafting team, if I can be of use. I think it would be good to have Marcan and Herko (or someone from the foundation) as well, if they will agree.

I suggest an easy way to sort this out is for Sailjapan participate in the draft proposal preparation team. It's important to have everyone can discuss this in one place.

I don't think we should have a detailed discussion about either proposal yet, the important thing is to get this Draft Proposal Preparation Team set up quickly. They should set up a community consultation process as part of their work, to ensure we can have a signle orderly discussion about the details.

Anyway Crip you're nominated, but do you want the job? Anyone else want to put their hand up?

Thank you for this initiative. I think it will give the teams a lot more automony and responsibility, which is a good thing. I also appreciate that the team/group leaders and council members will be elected by their members. Of course, it also puts responsibility back on the community to get involved!

I think the general approach of setting up a drafting committee to make a more detailed proposal and putting the draft up for discussion by the community is a great idea. I support this approach and hope it will go ahead.

You can't edit the default template set within XOOPS. However you can clone the default set (in admin->system->templates) and you are able to edit the clones.

To see the changes however you need to first switch XOOPS to use a cloned template set (in admin->system->preferences->general) and also select 'check templates for modifications' in the same area.

Then you can edit everything to your hearts content :)

You have my sympathies. A few years ago 70% of my home state was burned black and a large chunk of the city (Canberra) went up as well. Places that had been tall forests my whole life were burnt to the ground and after the rain washed away the ash there was nothing left but bare earth. It's kind of shocking to visit a place you know well and scarcely be able to recognise it.

Fire is a terrible force! But things will eventully return to normal. Hope you get through it ok.

I think you're always better off doing a manual install. These automatic installs are often several versions behind (ie. not up to date with security and patches).

By the time you've patched the site, you would have been better off just doing a clean install of the latest version.

Not singling any particular system out by the way, I don't think I've ever seen one that was up to date.

It varies a lot for me. It's currently running about 2-3 seconds, but sometimes it goes to 20+ or throws db connection errors. Load problem I guess, but fortunately most xoopsers seem to live on *your* side of the planet and are asleep when I'm online

Definitely, not very user friendly (I don't think I've ever noticed that before!). And an email alert to members when there's a security issue would help get people's sites patched quickly too.
