Everything went fine on my localhost except attachments. I have the same problem as piroman and I want to save only pictures. I'm newbie, and maybe attachments are converted , but I can't to make them work ,to set preferences or something like this.
Please help me with this, because the end of my horror is near.
Once again I would like to send you enormous gratitude and thank You so much.

I never worked with atttachments on cbb, but I know that the smf converter script checks if attachments are activated.
So you should activate (before conversion) attachments in the admin section of your smf forum.
Maybe you can choose the same directory for these attachments as you have for cbb.

Possible you will get errors if the cbb handling of attachments is different from that of newbb.
Then you'll have to look at the structure of cbb attachments and change things in the converter file.

Bad info is that downgrading is head breaking process. I tried and tried...on my local host and failed!
I used phpdev, and now I switched to xampp. I don't have have any more patience for today and I will continue tomorrow.
Why is it so difficult?

I did only the first two steps of the downgrade (not the downgrade of the blocks)
I got a lot of warnings, but my database was downgraded.
Just try once more (starting with the original database) do the first two downgrade steps and after that start the conversion to smf.

1) These are the changed files.
2) If the pictures are attachments of cbb messages then why not use attachments in smf? The messages are converted anyway and in smf your attachment (pictures) will display a nice thumbnail.
I'm sure someone could make a short script to insert the attachments in the smf database, but not by me.

I don't know if I have what you want, I posted several times on simplemachines and elsewhere, but got no response, so if you have questions first search for my postings.

You can download here :http://www.amevita.eu/modules/wfdownloads/viewcat.php?cid=3

the files that I used to downgrade and convert.
Use this at own risk and no support from my side.

Before you even begin make a good plan and BACKUP database /files of your XOOPS installation and actually TEST if these backups work.

For the actual conversion test if the conversion and so on works well.
For that purpose install smf 1.1.2 in a subdirectory of you XOOPS site.
Copy the database / files of your XOOPS site and your new smf 1.1.2 to your local server or test server.(for the conversion you'll have to change path / database data in the smf setting files)
So you have a copy of your site.

Copy the files you downloaded to the root of your test-xoops site.

Execute downgrade.php (you don't have to convert blocks because you will not use XOOPS after conversion)

You will get several warnings, don't mind that.

Then start the conversion by executing the conversion.php script. The script will ask you some things like where you have your smf install and so on.
Then the conversion will start, when you have a big forum this will take some time, DON'T, I repeat DON'T touch the continue button, because this will mess up your database!!!

After the conversion is complete make a backup of the smf database and restore that on your site.
Then let smf check/repair/optimise your database and do a recalculation of your statistics.

Then you need to assign right to your boards and assign moderators because these are not converted.

Don't forget to make backups between this steps and at the end !!!!!

When all goes well repeat this when you do the actual conversion.

Then, the only thing you have to do is deleting the XOOPS files (you may want to keep some directories like uploads/images because your postings may point to images inside these directories)
Then move your smf install from the subdirectory to the root of your site and run repair_settings.php (can be downloaded from simple machines org) and change your theme directories to the correct data.

Because a lot of users have your forum in their favorites, you may want to make the directories modules/newbb/ and place in that an index.php with the message that your forum has moved.

Because I had only 160 users I also converted the avatars of my users (by hand and with the help of ck-rename of hervet)changed their signatures, and installed the smilies that I used on the 'old' forum.

What also happens is that search engines like google go bananas

Succes with your conversion

I must totally agree with Piroman. I'm totally stuck with xoops, and I don't know how to get reed of it. It's nothing personal, but gap between 2.2.3 and 2.0.1 and I lost my patience. So please if there is some one with converter for XOOPS 2.2.3 and cbb 2.3 to smf, help me!

I did a conversion of XOOPS 2.2.4 / cbb 3.04 to smf 1.1.2 / tiny portal 0.98 (you can see it here :http://www.alohaspirit.nl)
I did the conversion on my own server at home.
First I downgraded XOOPS 2.2.4 (the downgrade script is here at xoops.org available)
I made a little change in the downgrade script to get user name and real name in the right place.

The conversion for XOOPS to smf is available at simplemachines.org
Here I had the change several things, because the script is written for newbb, not for cbb, it's not that difficult (maybe you will find something on the conversion I did on simplemachines.org)

For the backup/restore of the databases I used mysqldumper. When you have many postings you may have to make multipart backups, because most hosts don't allow more then 10.000 inserts / hour in the database.

Succes.

Please note that neither of: xAsset, xStreamer nor xProject are longer available for public consumption.

The above site is potentially violating my copyright by providing xStreamer for download.

This also applies to Xoops.org and the availability of an older version of xAsset for download.

This is my only warning: any site found hosting either of xAsset, xProject or xStreamer for download will be notified. If download links are not removed by request then your ISP/WebHost will be notified of this copyright breach.

Owkee, I will remove Xstreamer from the downloads section and stop using it, no big deal for me.
