Thanks,

I didn't edit any of the files not passing the check and have replaced them now with those from the zip.

Steps taken:

1. deleted all files in cache folders data/xoops_cache, smarty_cache, smarty_compile and cache folder in root.
2. cleared session table.
3. replaced files with fresh and have only mainfile.dist.php as incorrect (am guessing because it is replaced when installing Protector module)
4. Emptied all browser temp files and history files, cookies etc.
5. Uninstalled an unused module (Marquee)
6. updated all modules via module admin except CBB 3.08.

Inconsistent behaviour now with Firefox which was working OK just minutes ago.

IE 7 continues to take the login and then return to the login page.

On a positive note, the host has given me 9 months free for all the trouble.

Overconfidence I suppose. Some lessons are hard to learn from others. Maybe someone reading this thread has been prompted to do some backing-up that they have been putting off and my troubles will benefit another XOOPS user.

Thanks for the tips, as always.

In the root folder, the cache directory has only an index.html and a readme file.
Do I delete everything in the cache folders?
class/cache and xoops_data/caches ?

Checksum file reveals the following issues aside from the absence of the install, xoops_lib and xoops_data which are outside of the root. These are the files I imagine are edited from their original state through the install process?

"/admin.php content invalid
./backend.php content invalid
./header.php content invalid
./index.php content invalid
./mainfile.dist.php content invalid
./register.php content invalid
./user.php content invalid
./userinfo.php content invalid
./xoops.css content invalid
./Frameworks/readme.txt content invalid
./class/mail/phpmailer/language/phpmailer.lang-fo.php content invalid"

Session table cleared.

Mozilla seems fine. IE 8 not so good.

I think I need to wait and see when the host sorts things out and can tell me with confidence that there is nothing more they can do.

Then I see where it all stands.

Main site is www.oalep.ca in case a direct look might provide some insight. Now it seems to be having the same issues.

Thanks,

I can't imagine that a session table could be full. The site only has 5 members, all for development purposes.

I've basically removed all security now so everything is allowed while I'm working on this. Thing is that I'm finding the same behavoiour on different computers, home, work, network, stand-alone..

The host has provided this information:

Quote:
Sorry for the inconvenience.
There was an internal issue on server side and the problem was about hard drive crash. Our admin team solved the problem but for sending up accounts on this server, we had to restore accounts from our backup server and for some cases, this backups referred to a few days/months before the problem, unfortunately we have lost all the updates that was happened during this time.

Please let us know if you have any updated backup from your account.

Your understanding is appreciated in advance.

This still doesn't explain to me why it seems fine one moment and messed up the next.

Just now using Firefox, I cleared all private data.

First login attempt gives me the welcome message but kicks me back to the login page.
Second attempt, same thing.
Third attempt lets me into the front page which looks fine but when I try to go to a module or link, I get the "Sorry you don't have permission to access this area" message and back to the login page.
Next login seems to work, but the page is just text, no logo, no graphics. But the links work and I can get to the Control Panel... then I'm kicked out again.

And of course, my backup is older than it should be. It just seems that everything is there but I can't get to it consistently.

Well, now not at all because Protector has banned my IP.

In case it matters, the site with the issues is an add-on domain. The main site is working just fine as far as I can tell.

When they did the restore, perhaps some files were missed or damaged?

Ideas are most welcome. I'm not sure where to go from here.

Now I find that when I try to login, I get the thank you for logging in message but am then kicked back to the login page. Same information two minutes later gives me the "incorrect login" message.

I updated the system, protector, and profile modules just in case.

Login with Firefox is not a problem. Still I can't login under Explorer.

Is this clearly a server issue?

Anything I can/should do?

No problems for months. I have made no changes.
First symptom seems to be that the appearance has changed a little but only when viewing in IE. Firefox seemed fine.

Now when the site does look OK, I can't login, or if I can login as the webmaster, it kicks me out as soon as I try to take any sort of administrative action.

I'm checking with the host to see if there are problems on that end.

Is there a good post somewhere to go through some troubleshooting for this sort of situation?

One of the sites has been under development and is supposed to be presented in 48 hours... not good.

Don't forget to update the Wiki Page with a link to the download site. Not every one of these modules is available in the repository.

Great if someone has figured out a hack, but that does very little for users such as myself who are not comfortable with hacks yet.
It seems to be an unfortunate situation.

Re: Error in ExtGallery

I tried eXtGallery 1.08 with XOOPS 2.3.3 and found the same problem. I couldn't create a category.

I made the change as suggested by ghia but that did not solve the issue.

I removed 1.08 and installed 1.07. No problems with that so far.

I haven't heard of deleting your site during installation. Are you needing to do that in order to start over, or is it just "happening" to you?

The piece that you are missing is that you need to upload the contents of the htdocs folder to the root folder of your site. You are uploading the XOOPS folder and all sub-folders.

At this point if you have the site running under the address you gave, you can move the files from htdoc up to the root directory and then edit mainfile.php to reflect the new location.

If you aren't too far into things, I suggest re-installing in the proper location.

And read this thread.
Optimism is the mother of disappointment.
