Is this with one particular module or all modules? If all modules, what modules do you have installed? What happens when you hover your mouse over a module icon, i.e.: do you get the js popup menu?

I've seen situations when you have several modules installed that the admin section gets buggy. If you can track down the offending module, the remaining modules start working correctly again.

Could you please provide the SQL debug messages you were receiving so that the offending code can be found and fixed.

Thank you.

XOOPS itself works perfectly fine. Modules, that's a different story, but if the modules you are using are well supported and updated regularly, then you should be fine.

The only time I've had any problems with it is when I tried to run a 2.0.13.2 site with 2 + year old modules.

The perfect XOOPS server doesn't exist because there are far to many variables to take into account for. The core XOOPS application itself is quite low overhead and can scale to tens of thousands of users without issue.

Where you run into problems is server load is modules. Many modules. Most modules are not efficient with SQL and thus present a heavier load on the server. So, one of the first things to consider is what modules you will be using and how they will be used.

Another factor is how often users make use of the built in search functionality. XOOPS search presents a very heavy load on the server and has brought this site to its knees on many occasions.

Examples:
A site like xoops.org should be on an enterprise class architecture where Apache/PHP are on one node and MySQL is on a separate node.

A site with the same user base that doesn't make extensive use of the built in search and is only hosting 1 site on the server could get by with 1 server with just 4GB of RAM, provided you make use of FastCGI, Zend Optimizer and you tweak your my.cnf for optimum performance.

So, as you see, there is no "cookie cutter" answer. Perhaps if you shared a bit more about what modules you will be using and what your user base is like, that would help narrow down what is needed for your particular scenario.

It's now clear why such "server maintenance" took so long.
By the way, something unacceptable for a company.
And why the Foundation report was never released.

While such poisonous people still pointing the finger to others for their damage to the project and community, in ~ 2years they insult and expelled the XOOPS founder, frozen development, and project fork..
and they claim to give their time for free !!!

But today, Evil lost another battle and that,

Unite the international community (alike all branches of a tree) and bring stability to the project with focus on Xoops.org

The XOOPS Foundation contacted me to do the server migration because they had decided to have it professionally done and was prepared to pay for it anyways. Instead of going outside of XOOPS for a solution provider, they looked inside XOOPS first.

When approached about this job, I expressed multiple times that I did not feel comfortable charging XOOPS for my services. The representatives from the Foundation insisted that I be paid a fair wage for my work because they expected professional results.

I struck a compromise with the Foundation... I charged 50% my normal rate, which is 25% of the rate the Foundation was prepared to pay me. i.e.: I gave the XOOPS Foundation a 75% discount. Payment was only made for consulting, building, and testing the new web servers; which is the services I performed.

After my contract with the Foundation was disolved, I even went as far as to offer a refund because the contract ending prematurely. It is the stance of the Foundation that I should be paid for services rendered.

And I've got the chat and email logs to prove every last bit of it.

Considering who is doing the attacking here, I was say that this is very much a case of the pot calling the kettle black.

You better go look at the log in your eye before you point out the spec in mine.

Every other service I provided for XOOPS was for FREE. All of my designs, all of my code, the hundreds of hours babysitting this site, fixing server security vulnerabilities, bringing up crashed sites, nursing these servers and dealing with a$$holes as a moderator, trying to help newcomers, etc... Every last bit of it was done as a volunteer!

That contract has been dissolved.

Please do not lie to the public, DJ. You were notified of this through the Google Groups discussion thread. This has also been discussed with Herko from the XOOPS Foundation. I was paid for 50% of the job and I have completed 50% of the job.

The XOOPS Foundation now has an enterprise class hosting environment ready to host the XOOPS Project's sites. Please contact Herko of the XOOPS Foundation for details on how to obtain access on this resource.

All that is left to do is moving the sites and fixing compatibility bugs with PHP5 and MySQL5, which is a job best left to developers, not server administrators. It would make no sense to pay me to do something that several capable people in this project are willing to do for free.

So, to clarify... My obligation as a contractor to this project is complete. Please remove my server access.

XOOPSinfo.com, xoopsinfo.net, xoopsinfo.org, and xoopsinfo.info were donated to the XOOPS Foundation as my last donation/contribution to this project. That site (and reserved domains) are hosted on XOOPS Foundation servers (the new servers) and is entirely managed by the XOOPS Foundation. The team that manages that site are volunteers from the community who have proved over a very long term of service to XOOPS that they are capable of providing excellent support to the XOOPS community.

I could give a rats a$$ what the XOOPS project does now. I'm now a very happy Wordpress user. The only reason I'm bothering to post this message is to clarify for the ignorant minority that XOOPSinfo is not a "pet project"; that it is a community site built and managed by the community for the community.

P.S. Standard protocol when a volunteer leaves a project is to remove that user's account and change the passwords for any account that user had access to. I still have root level access to both the old and new servers. You best thank your lucky stars that I'm not a vengeful prick like Mikhail or Damaster.

Why am I leaving?

For almost 2 years, XOOPS has had a higher priority in my life than my family and job. When your hobby takes over your life, it's time for a change.

Yes, I'm frustrated with a LOT of what I see in XOOPS, but that is only a minor part of my decision.

I have a family to provide for and to lead. That is much more important to me than XOOPS. Therefore, XOOPS must return to its appropriate role in my life; that being a hobby.

Whether you respect my decision or not, my decision is final. I will not be involved in management of anything regarding XOOPS. I have a wife and a little boy who need my leadership more.

Thank you to all of you who have taught me so much. I take with me experience that is invaluable and friendships that are more precious than gold. That makes all the frustration worth it.

To all of you who have criticized me... Thank you for your feedback. I will consider your points and will find ways to come across in a more professional manor. Thank you for your concern.

P.S. Could a Moderator please lock this thread. There's nothing left to say. I'm done. Let someone else step up and lead. Isn't that what Open Source is all about? Those who can do, do. Those that cannot, move on. I'm moving on.

@BlueStocking,

You have no idea what you are talking about. Please educate yourself before you post your ridiculous accusations.

Don't worry, you wont be seeing any new themes from me here. Ignorant people like you sucked the fun out of designing themes for me, so why should I give my work to people like you for FREE. For the record, I dare you to find 1 theme I've charged the public for.

@Marco,

I will be at Xi being a community member. I will not be returning in any form of management. Furthermore, I am not a member of the Foundation.

@Herve,

You are absolutely correct. I am replaceable, so replace me.

You need someone to take up the following roles:

Community Leader
Server Administrator
Design Team Member
Emergency Site Admin

I meant what I said. I'm done! My only involvement in XOOPS with be XOOPSinfo.

Best of luck to you all!

Mamba,

What is regrettable is that I didn't runs screaming away from XOOPS a long time ago. The writing has been on the wall. I was just too blind with optimism to see it.

courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
