Re: Really Need CafePress module

This is the third time you've posted this question in different threads. On one of them you got an answer. So stop cross posting, it doesn't help.

Also, posting an email address isn't wise, the spam spiders will find it... too late..

Re: Thank XOOPS!

Thanks again for coming back to life. I'm sure that was a lot more work than you had planned for the weekend and week.

FYI, the same crew that took down XOOPS is still at it and not all the sites are XOOPS so I hope people are making sure their server is secure not just XOOPS code.

I had some visits this morning from our favourite country trying to bust in. I dodged the bullet and so far my sites are ok.

Hint to webmasters, check your server logs. The attempts likely won't show up in XOOPS or XOOPS stats modules until it is too late. You might be surprised when you analyze the backend logs and find out that script kiddies come around every day.

Re: Visitor count in Whos Online block is incorrect

For the webmaster the main server logs will give you much more useful information than the who's online block. Your server generates a detailed log no matter what is running (xoops, html, etc).

Run your favourite log analysis on the logs and find out what is actually happening. If you're hosted then there is already a log reporting function most likely.

Once you actually have users the user block will be more accurate. The who's online block whether accurate or not isn't keeping or attracting users. The content and function is.

Re: Whats the deal with the weird BOLD/Italics/Underline function?

I don't know how 2.2 will change things but as always the easiest way is how I said, just type the codes. The most common are very easy to remember. b, i, etc... That has always seemed easier and faster than taking a hand off the keyboard to move a mouse.

But I'm old and stuborn.

Re: Different Url -> different theme

I think he means to have several URLs/domains pointing at the same site. Depending on the URL it would show with a specific theme.

If that is right, with a tricky hack it can be done. I did this once last year. First thing is to make the server show the same site under multiple hosts/domains. Under Apache that is ServerAlais or under a hosted server it can be Parked Domains and maybe a few other ways.

Then you need a hack that responds to the URL and returns a unique mainfile.php and common.php. I don't have all the details anymore as it became too much work to maintain and I'm no longer doing it.

A slightly easier way but also a theme hack is to have the theme change based on group membership.

It can get messy with upgrades.

Re:Re: W2K +IIS +MS Proxy Standalone server Solution

I replied to your PM. I wish I had saved a copy to paste here (hmm, an outbox would be nice..).

Bottom line is that the URL as seen in the browser must match the XOOPS_URL setting in mainfile.php including any port number if not 80.

Internal users should resolve to the internal IP while using the same URL as external users. An internal only version of the domain or an entry in each pc's hosts file will do the trick.

I have no idea about the specifics of SBS but the basics are the same.

Re: Whats the deal with the weird BOLD/Italics/Underline function?

Coming from an OS and browser that usually isn't supported for all those WYSIWYG features I've learned to do it much faster when I need to the old fashioned way. Instead of using the click me menus and whatnot you can simply type the required tags and be done with it.

So if I want to quote a line I can copy the text, type the [ quote] tag, paste it in and close the tag. easy as this: Quote:
I have NO CLUE what you turkeys are ramblinb on about
and of course you can type a simple [ b] tag and get bold. look ma, no mouse no click.

easy as pie.

Re: Visitor count in Whos Online block is incorrect

Relax guy. This is not a bug but a tuning function. I'm not a programmer but I can appreciate the need to not burden the system just to show status. I'm sure you can hack the code to show accurate status but then the status will be the busiest part of the site.

If you have little or no traffic then why would you need to know the status? Hint, you don't have anyone online. Your web server traffic reports will show a lot more detail about what (or not) is happening on the site.

Re: port redirection?

I don't know of any port specific issues in any URLs generated unless a 3rd pary module has a problem.

Are you redirecting a normal port 80 at the firewall or port 81 in and out? Either should work if Apache and XOOPS are configured right.

If the user's browser URL has the same base as in mainfile.php it should be fine no matter what port. But they should match.

And, what are you using to redirect?

More info might help.

When I tried it on my 2.09 version it worked perfectly. It must be a compatibility thing that wasn't noticed. I don't know how to fix it.

Maybe upgrade xoops?
