Bump!

Any takers? I changed my idea a bit...I think'll be even easier to implement!

I want to keep the original big spotlight area - but have 3 smaller "see also's" to the right. Maybe some extra div tags and give me some admin options.

Thanks for looking

Paid Project: Need Developer to Modify Spotlight

Dear Xoopsers:

I am looking for a developer to assist me at www.guitargearheads.com in re-developing the Spotlight 2.1 module currently in use.

Due in large part to our successful implementation with Xoops, GearHeads is very successful and we need more Spotlight spaces for our reviews!

What I need is:

- 3 spotlight spots (instead of 1) with the ability to write my own teaser for the article (like in the Soapbox module)

The rest of the module would be basically the same (though I have some additional ideas that you might help with).

Thanks for your help.

Please PM if interested to discuss fees. I am happy to release this to the XOOPS community upon completion.

URL Rewrite Update: Google Indexing and Xoops

Dear Xoopsers:

I just received a message from the Google staff that I though you would be interested in. I recently asked them to include my site (www.guitargearheads.com) in their news indexing service. Unfortunately they were unable to - I have posted the reasons below - however, it essentially has to do with the way they index URLs.

Based on this - I am request that the URL rewrite hack formally become a permanent aspect of XOOPS (perhaps switchable). This is important so that it is no longer a hack and upgrade paths are preserved.

Thanks,

Dan

--------- From Google ----------------------

Hi Daniel,

Thank you for your inquiry regarding inclusion in Google News. We apologize for our delayed response. After some investigation, we've found that our system cannot crawl some of your articles because of the format of their URLs. In order to have your articles crawled by Google News,
their URLs must contain a number consisting of at least three digits.

For example, our news crawler would not crawl articles with the following URLs:

www.google.com/news/article23.html
www.google.com/lemurs_in_the_mist.html

It would crawl these pages:
www.google.com/news/08112003/article.html
www.google.com/news/lemurs_in_the_mist/23467.html

An example of a site that we are able to crawl successfully is

http://english.chosun.com.

Please note that each article on this site has a highly unique URL.

We apologize for this limitation of our system. If you are able to make changes on your end to allow us to crawl your content, please let us know.

Regards,
The Google Team

Hey Horacio,

Just adding to the bug list a bit. I use Soapbox 1.5 current RC. Works outstandingly well - love it.

You can see it implemented at:http://www.guitargearheads.com

Couple of issues:
The spotlight block does not work well. 1) It does not "remember" selected options. You can set them but when you go back to edit the block many of the default options re-appear. 2) Even when you do set them the "Yes" and "No"'s don't work well. I had to physically edit out the byline code for it to stop displaying.

I like the admin changes a great deal. This is one of the best XOOPS modules - hope development continues!

Registration Form

Hey all,

I am trying to modify the registration page so that it includes the following message.

"NOTE: It may be necessary to disable your firewall to register since some have been known to delete header information sent during the registration process. If you are having problems - please turn off your firewall for the registration process only. You may turn it back on immediately afterwards."

It seems that I must manipulate register.php since there is no template assigned. Erm...where exactly would I do that since it is a fairly complicated bit of code.

Thanks,

Dan

I use PHPAdsNew on my site at:

www.guitargearheads.com

It runs all my banners and will support flash etc.

It is really easy to insert the php code into a block as well. I just inserted the code in place of the XOOPS banner code and then 4x into block for the particular zones.

My advertisers love it because they can monitor their ads for effectiveness.

Great job...two things:

1) Make sure you post this as a news item under YAXS so the site gets in our next newsletter.

2) Maybe you want to list your band at my website? www.guitargearheads.com I just opened a section for member bands!

Nice design - congratulations.

Dan
