Re: Restricting cache size

I managed to get 1.4 installed, but it hasn't helped.

I created an invisible block, but I can't work out how to make it do anything. I can't delete that block, but have to deactivate the module.

I still have the 2 unwanted modules.

Sigh.

UPDATE - some progress...

It appears that the Do It Now button is clearing the cache at the right place. I had a look at the code and I think I can see where it is getting the cache location from, so I am good with this.

I assume also that all you need to do is set up an invisible block on a page somewhere in the site for the events specified in the preferences to take place by magic. I am also ok with that.

I burnt my bolognese sauce while I was messing around with the module. I think I can fix that.

Does anyone know how to kill the 2 misinstalled modules (called Module for File Not Found)

Thanks,
Tim

Re: Restricting cache size

I ran into too many problems before I ever got there.

The site that wrote it appears to be gone.

V.1.4 doesn't install properly, but does install a module that is called "Module File for Not Found!". I now have 2 of these and they won't uninstall or update, they just go to a blank page.

V1.2 does install, but it appears that when it clears the cache it clears the templates_c directory. My cache is not in that directory, as is suggested in the new security instructions. I can't find where to set the cache directory for this module.

I wish I had never seen this module.

Re: Restricting cache size

Perhaps I should ask again, as the answer is not apparent to me:

Could someone please tell me what the suggested solution is for the cache size increasing constantly?

Thank you,
Tim

Re: Restricting cache size

I have read it again, and that hasn't helped. Do we have a solution to this problem, and if so, what might that solution be? Perhaps I am dumb, but the approach one should take to control cache size is not apparent to me.

Could someone please help by spelling it out for me.

Re: Restricting cache size

So we still have no solution for this situation other than a cron job, and sites that have this problem will just have their caches grow until they eat up all of your size allocation?

I will wait to see if/why XoopsCare doesn't work before attempting to install it.

Re: Restricting cache size

Or perhaps I won't install it. The support site seems to be gone and while there is a version on SourceForge, there appear to be no installation instructions.

Re: Restricting cache size

I will install it and try it out. However, if Xoops needs something like this to keep a site up, then perhaps something larger should be said about it for now and a fix provided in later versions?

Re: Restricting cache size

The update was to 2.4.4.

I have not used cron before, and I am not sure how. It seems as thought the cache size should be configurable though.

I will see if I can use this solution, but I am ready to listen to a better one. After all, will this not break every Xoops site eventually?

Thanks,
Tim

Restricting cache size

Hi all,

After a recent update i set my Xoops cache outside of the public_html structure, as was suggested. It works fine but my ISP just freaked out as my cache directory went 730Mb and exceeded my disk space usage allowance.

I am deleting all of the cache files that will solve the immediate problem, but where is the maximum cache size set? I have found where the time setting for the cache on the individual modules are, but is there somewhere a maximum cache size setting? I have searched for the answer to this but haven't found anything.

Thanks,
Tim
