Barry asked if SmartMail will be compatible with XOOPS 2.2.4 as well as 2.0.X.

We've been testing in 2.0.X in the SandBox and things work fine.

We have not testing yet with 2.2.4 - but SmartFactory assures us that if it does not with 2.2.4, they will bang on it until it does

I've spent the last few days playing in the SmartMail SandBox and have just finished writing the first draft of the "readme" file for SmartMail.

I'm pretty excited by what the SmartFactory team has developed and am looking forward to community feedback.

We're hoping to have a first public beta release very very soon. Like maybe today.

Stay tuned or keep your eye on:
Dev.Xoops.Org

We'll post the files there and use the dev.xoops.org bug tracker and feature request forums.

Another slight delay, but not major.

Looking at early September for a working demo and possibly downloadable code for testing.

Things are looking good. Thanks for your patience, SmartMail will be worth the wait.

A sneak feature peek: the ability to include any XOOPS block in newsletter issues!

Sorry for the tardy reply.

Short answer is we are a bit delayed, but still working on it.

One key member of the team is in job transition - finishing up commitments to current employer. Another has taken ill, requiring hospitalization.

So it looks like end of the month before we have a beta to share.

There is a development forum on this project at the SmartFactory. It's just restricted access at this point. That's why you didn't see it.

Give me a day or so to catch up with Marcan. He was on vacation last week. I I was out the week before so we haven't had much time to chat.

I'll post updates here.

Status report on "SmartMail"...

Subscription script foundations done and in testing
Newsletter authoring foundations complete and in testing
Mail sending script development underway

Early next week we'll have a partial demo up and running - of at least the subscription script. It's a complex script taking into account many subscriber scenerios - already registered but not logged in, logged in and subscribing, not registered and subscribing...

Stay tuned for demo URL address.

Still on target for Aug release of working module. Not sure if we'll be beta or RC yet.

Sorry. Out of my league now.

You might have to go to the next tier...which might involve paid support...

Guys at www.inboxsolutions.net are great.

What software do you use for a multi-folder text search? Can you do this in Windows search? (never tried it and going to try it now).

Try Abacre.com's Advanced Find and Replace.

Or if you are using a site management tool - Dreamweaver or GoLive - they both have built in search tools for this sort of thing.

Or you could switch to the Mac OS - multi-folder text search is built in. Grin.

Do you want to charge for downloads? Or just capture registration info (for future marketing)?

Do you need multi-language/multi-currency capability?

Do you really want to allow people to upload to your site without admin approval?

What payment methods do you want to use (PayPal, credit card, etc)?

Don't think you need a 100% custom PHP site.

Still not sure if you need a XOOPs site, or instead a nice e-commerce site that has download capabilities.
