Right now i am testing a site that has to do with combining maps and content management systems. I have hacked XOOPS and some modules to make them location aware.

The site is at:

http://www.georeader.com

let me know of your questions/comments/suggestions.

if you would like, feel free to click around, register, and post.

Unfortunately, it only geocodes US addresses (finds lat/lon given address), and has US cities, although you may enter lat/lon coordinates for anywhere.

I can't find anything in the control panel to allow users to upload their own personal avatar. What do i have to do to make that happen?

thanks.

as i wrote in the other thread:

in case any one else has this problem, when you get that message, it means that the correct module hasn't been installed yet.

Since extended profiles are necessary (apparently), the usermanagement module must be installed. I tried to install it later, and still got some problems, I don't think my profile was created correctly. So. Reinstall XOOPS with usermanagement module.

It tries to go to the profile module when it shows a profile, if that module hasn't been installed, you get that error.

Maybe the XOOPS developers should make you install it when you install Xoops... Kind of like the system module. Because if it's not installed, apparently it causes problems.

Is any one working on prototypes for what the end result will look like and what it will be able to do? So far, I've seen a lot of technical specifications about the kernel, but that's it. Technical specifications don't mean that there's going to be a good end product.

It would be nice to see some prototypes, screen shots, and UI work happening in parallel so we can see what can be done with XOOPS 4, and also, it would keep the developers moving in the right direction.

just a suggestion, if this has already been done, then please point me to where i can see it. thanks.

Also, i don't want to offend any one, but is XOOPS 4 gonna be better than Mambo?

When I installed 2.2.3 RC1, and went to the module admin section, the pop-up menus that used to come up when I had 2.0 do not pop up anymore. It used to be that all I had to do was point to a module on the left side of the screen, and menu would pop up, listing various different options for that module.

Now I can no longer get to the NewBB forum list or categories to add a category or forum. How do I get to that screen now???

I'm not understanding how the module cache works, because a module is composed of many pages.

Does it keep several pages cached? Is the cache based on URL? Or maybe the ids, such as article id or whatever?

okay... sounds good...

On a more general level, I would still like to see a way to add module metadata, meaning data that is not meant to be configurable, but just to tell something about the module.

That way, it would be much easier to use a module as a library on top of which other modules could be built. It would also be easier to define relationships between the modules.

for example: i would like to be able to quickly find all modules where mapping is set to 1. I was just thinking about defining a config option that can't change, and adding an index to the config_name column of the config table. That would work for now...

I'm sure there are other examples of modules that use other modules too... This would just make it a lot easier and more organized.
