Bassman,

Can you tell me which email program / module you used? I've tried a couple without much luck. If you found one that works, that would be a good start.

Thanks.

John

You can either create a block and set it to display on the top page (System Admin -> blocks), or you can assign a module to be your start page (System Admin -> Preferences -> General Settings). Depending on your site, you might select News or Headlines, or, if you want a static page, something like TinyContent.

Need to display longer quote in Random Quote

Greetings,

I am trying to use the Random Quote module to display scriptures on my church's website. Some scriptures are too long and are truncated. In the mysql.sql file there were 2 fields defined. I attempted to increase the size of the 'texto' field. I uninstalled and reinstalled, and got this error:

Installing Random Quotes

Too big column length for column 'texto' (max = 255). Use BLOB instead

Unable to install randomquote. Error(s):
Back to Module Administration page

So, I'm guessing I can't do that. Is there another way to increase the quote length, or another module that would serve my purpose better?

Thanks.

John

I'm using COOLjsMenu Pro (javascript.cooldev.com) on a site that I am working on. The site isn't finished, but the menu is working if you want to take a look.

Javascript menu not working in Firefox when added to theme.html

I hope someone here can help me. I'm at my wits end. I'm trying to set up a new website for my church. My pastor really likes the look of the horizontal dhtml menus. I tried without success (so far) to get tigra working (plus, it appears that it only understands absolute positioning, and I need relative). I tried building a menu with the Coffee Cup DHTML menu builder. It creates a ton of code that goes directly into your page, anywhere within the body. Menu works with IE and Firefox. I pasted the code into my theme.html file (not correctly positioned yet, but it's on the page). Showed up fine in IE, but does not show up at all in Firefox. I put just the menu code in a separate html file, and it works fine with either browser.

I have to have this site completed before Sunday morning. I still have a lot of content to put in, but it won't matter if I don't have a working menu. If anyone could take a look at it, I would sure appreciate it.

The site is at www.dconline.org. The site is closed (pastor let the new url leak early), but I have created an account for you to log in with - test / test.

The menu code is pasted in directly after the <body> tag.

To see the menu working in mozilla / firefox, you can go to menu test and see it in action.

If anyone has any suggestions on something else that would provide the needed funtionality, I'm open to that as well. I just need to get something working fast.

Thanks in advance.

John

shaxs -

They've got reseller plans for that very purpose. Check it out. If you hit their forums, I post as john over there. Feel free to drop me a pm over there as well.

Mithrandir -

The hosting forum has gotten a little hot lately, so I was going to stay away from it for awhile, but I did notice something that I hadn't seen before, and thought I'd bring it to your attention.

If you go to Surpass' hosting plan page, and scroll down, they have a list of features for cPanel (which I'm afraid isn't entirely up-to-date, Kayla!). However, what I noticed is that they now have "Xoops Portal" listed under cPanel, and it is actually a link back to xoops.org. The "other" CMS listed there is lower on the page and is not a link back to their site. In fact, the only other 2 links in the list of cPanel features is one for AW Stats and one that points to Surpassdomains. So, it looks like XOOPS is getting a little extra boost there.

It's a start anyway.

Is there a birdie among us? I've been called worse, but yeah - I'm your birdie. Surpass has been the best host that I have used to date. So far, my experience with them has been 100% good. They made an effort to connect with this community - first by offering a free month to members of this forum, and then by contributing to the project. There are several of us here that host there, and come back to share, only because we want to let others know that we've found a good thing. We aren't on the payroll. I know at the very least that carnuke, stewdio, phatty, and djsckizo all host there now.

Then the crap starts. If it was someone who had an honestly bad experience and felt the need to share it, that would be fine. But no, it's the same kind of junk that fills our (US) political system. Casting doubts and making insinuations. For what purpose? What is the motive? What good will come of it?

So, I let them know. They care about their reputation. Any company that sincerely wants to grow needs to. They thought they were among friends here, and I felt they should know that wasn't entirely the case, and that they should have the opportunity to defend themselves publicly since they were being attacked publicly. Obviously, they jumped on it, wanting to make sure their side of the story was heard.

I rarely get involved in controversial posts, as I don't feel like I've paid enough dues to do that. I'm still a new kid on the block, and try to respect that. However, since you have far fewer posts than me, and some of them came from this thread, I felt that I had no choice but to speak my piece.

If I have posted anything offensive to those who make XOOPS and the XOOPS community what it is today, I apologize. I just felt that this thread was the equivalent of a "sucker punch" against someone who did nothing to deserve it.

First of all, I just wanted to thank you again for the help you provided in response to my last problem on this board. You had the perfect solution and saved me much pain.

Now, in response to this post:

I see by the that you are only joking, but they weren't necessarily looking to offer a free month to anyone who would install xoops. Rather, they wanted to offer it to people who frequented this forum and were part of this community. That is why they requested the email, and asked that the person mention their username from this forum.

As for what you could do (keep in mind that I am only a customer, and anything I say is worthless should Kayla decide to post after me ), I'm not sure I understand. Surpass doesn't use Fantastico, but instead uses their own version that they call Scripta (main difference seems to be that Scripta works). XOOPS is one of the programs available for installation. phpnuke is listed under cPanel, but I just assumed that was a cPanel thing, not a preference of Surpass. In the graphic associated with Scripta, XOOPS is right there in the upper left corner.

If you could give an example of what you're thinking of, I'm sure Kayla would at least give it some thought. For what it's worth, she isn't offering a free month to users of any other CMS (that I'm aware of).

First, Surpass threw out the welcome mat to the XOOPS community by offering a free month of service for members of this forum. Several people here have taken them up on their offer, and have come back here to tell everyone just how good it is.

Well, tonight I noticed a new entry in the Contributors section: SURPASS HOSTING.

I have no idea how much they may have contributed, but considering the fact that some hosts have been known to banish XOOPS, I think this says quite a bit about how Surpass views XOOPS and it's community.

I am a XOOPS user and advocate, as well as a customer of Surpass. I honestly can't think of a better combination.

John
