News module - Recent News block not showing

Hi all,

I am having difficulty making the Recent Posts block from the News module appear on any pages. I have set it up so it is supposed to show on the top of the middle column, no that the location makes a difference.

See here.

Other news blocks like the News Topics block seem to work fine - I have left it in the same location to show that.

It is driving me mad - any ideas?

TIA,
Tim

Re: Menu Won't Line up correctly

Hi all,

Removing the "td"s from the styleNN.css file as previously discussed in the style.css file appears to have solved the problem.

Thank you all for your help.

Regards,
Tim

What do you need to see to diagnose the problem?

Re: Menu Won't Line up correctly

Damn - I have a bad feeling that this might be something that is broken in Firefox. Could someone else confirm this for me please - it looks fine in IE.

Re: Menu Won't Line up correctly

No joy - it now looks like this:

#mainmenu a {background-color: #2E4166; display: block; margin: 4px; padding: 3px;;}
#mainmenu a.menuTop {padding-left: 3px; color: #A5A464}
#mainmenu a:hover {color: #FFFFFF;}
#mainmenu a.menuMain {padding-left: 3px; color: #A5A464}
#mainmenu a.menuSub {padding-left: 15px; color: #CCCCCC}

#usermenu a {background-color: #2E4166; color: #A5A464; display: block; margin: 4px; padding: 3px;}
#usermenu a:hover {color: #FFFFFF;}
#usermenu a.highlight {background-color: #FFCCCC; }

Thanks
Tim

Re: Menu Won't Line up correctly

I am having this problem also, but my style.css has display: block; in it.... I have looked extensively and many report that this fixes it but not for me.

The menus are not one item per line but run on. See the menus here:

http://122.201.80.130/~timaqual/

The relevant part of style.css:

td#mainmenu a {background-color: #2E4166; display: block; margin: 4px; padding: 3px;;}
td#mainmenu a.menuTop {padding-left: 3px; color: #A5A464}
td#mainmenu a:hover {color: #FFFFFF;}
td#mainmenu a.menuMain {padding-left: 3px; color: #A5A464}
td#mainmenu a.menuSub {padding-left: 15px; color: #CCCCCC}

td#usermenu a {background-color: #2E4166; color: #A5A464; display: block; margin: 4px; padding: 3px;}
td#usermenu a:hover {color: #FFFFFF;}
td#usermenu a.highlight {background-color: #FFCCCC; }

Any help greatly appreciated. I have been trying for hours to fix this seemingly simple problem.

Thanks,
Tim

Re: Install won't get past first page - Language select

OK, that is weird, it seems to work on IE and not Firefox.

Install won't get past first page - Language select

Hi all,

I am trying a clean install of Xoops 2.4.5 and it won't go past the first page of the install. I select English and hit next then - it returns the same page.

I found this post, and this one, and they had no solutions either. They were also fairly old. Some posts contained suggestions that it had to do with php versions, and that it didn't work with php5, which my hosting provider claims to have (although I am checking).

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Tim

Re: Restricting cache size

Unfortunately it isn't just my site. From Mamba:

Quote:
Sometimes on my installations (and I didn't figure out why), XOOPS doesn't delete the files in the cache, i.e. the number of files is growing and growing, eating more and more space.

Others appear to have the same problem. I don't think that earlier Xoops versions had endlessly growing caches.

Re: Restricting cache size

I appear to have managed to uninstall the renegade "Fiole not Found" modules by deleting the tables direct from the database using PhpMyAdmin.

I really hope I didn't damage anything.

If XoopsCare works the way I have speculated that it does in previous posts, then I guess this is solved. Badly, piecemeal and by workarounds, but solved. Deleting your cache contents periodically is a very different concept to deleting the oldest cache items to maintain a given cache size.
