The user guide for Framworks says:

<i>1 check the files xoops_version.php under /Frameworks/ and subfolder to make sure it is newer than your current ones</i>

What on earth does that mean?

I intend to install a brand new XOOPS 2.0.16. Then Protector, then Frameworks etc. But when uploading the Module, Xooops can't find it... I'm lost.

Set custom sessions and set them to 60 minutes. After that I never had problems like this again!

I like it, but is there any chance to include an option to have individual pictures for each news? See here...

Anyone with any example of anyone who have built a newspaper-like news site with xoops? I am thinking about the news module (1.5x or similar) or any other modules. I want to make a kind of online magazine with front page with news stories presented kinda this (just an example): Example news site

Also, I want to make shortcuts to collections of topics presented in for example the right column.

I have dived into the News module, but I just can't understand how to present the news in a more newspaper way? Anyone?

I consider starting a new site, mainly based as a blog, but with possibility to add XOOPs modules and functions.

Could anyone advice me which type of blog to use, and best of all: some links to some live blog-solutions on a XOOPS installation?

I am really glad I installed Protector, in the log I can see that some f....g basta..s tried to screw up the site already one week after going live!

But.. I get warned that I should set this option:

php_admin_flag allow_url_fopen off

When I did, through my .htaccess, the system went blank and I got a 500 error. I removed the line and everything went fine again. Anyone with any explanation why this occured?

As many other users I have installed modules from the XOOPS module resipitory. This is not the best choice for getting modules, as the newest versions and completely different modules are not in this resipitory.

After some time I started to look at the homepage of the module creators and using google to search for new and extended modules, and this is a far better choice in the hunt for good modules.

About Sessions

I had serious problems getting constantly logged out from my site until I went into the admin preferences and turned on custom sessions and then sat the sessions optin to 60 minutes.

Which implications will this have on the system? Now I don't have any problems with permissions anymore, but I have changed some values in the system and I really don't know what I actually have done. Will this choice have any effect on the performance or something else?

I have searched a bit regarding sessions, but I havent found anything really claryfing. Unfortunately I'm not a technican, but the system I have put on web and tuned for some months now really works great.

You might try this:

Using a DB utility like PHPMyAdmin, connect to your database and 'empty' the session table - it will be called yourxoopsprefix_sessions. Go back and 'repair' the session table, then try to log in again.

The PHPMyAdmin website explains how to check and repair tables.

Before doing that, you should double check that your file and folder permissions have been set correctly. See the documentation site for details. If they are correct and this is a new site, you would be better off re-uploading the files. Corrupt FTP transfers of PHP files are often the cause of many weird problems.

PHP files should be transferred in ASCII (text) mode. This ensures line feed characters are converted to the correct format for the receiving server. This is especially important if you edit PHP files on a Mac using an editor that saves files in Mac format. The 'auto' setting in most FTP apps *should* do this automatically, but not all do.

If you use WAIS FTP, make sure you don't inadvertently have the 'convert filenames to lower-case' option selected. You tend to forget that Unix/Linux is case sensitive when you build a site on a PC.

If you have edited 'mainfile.php' locally, ensure there are no spaces or blank lines following the closing PHP tag (a common cause of errors).

You will minimise unpleasant surprises if you can mirror the live server config as closely as possible on your development computer, e.g. MySQL version, PHP version, register_globals settings etc. For example, if you use XAMPP you don't have to use the very latest versions of PHP or MySQL, they do have other distributions available.

Check the XOOPS FAQ for more info on access issues, blank pages etc.

HTH.

Guess what! I didn't have sessions turned on.. So I tried instead to turn sessions on and then I turned on the option to use my own session, and I sat it to 60 minutes. All my permission problems then just disappeared...!
Does this sound logic?

Xoops Poll can be found at: www.xprojects.co.uk

Nope, they cannot.

"The page cannot be displayed"

Wrong URL?

I know the correct URL!!!
Xoops.org - yeah, it's true.
First of all check the repository polls section and you will find the answers!

Okay, i'll give you a tweak (but don't tell anyone else) -https://xoops.org/modules/repository/viewcat.php?op=&cid=51

Thanks for your help, but the download link at SourceForge is not valid, and the authors website is in arabic, a language I unfortunately didn't learn... But, I'll try to Google a bit around.
