what modules could these be? :-| ...I had not really noticed anything along the way, haven't got many modules installed anyways to really know; yet I ask, better to modify the core that is in progress or better to have those modules be upgraded? which are to take a step forward? is the solution actually there or in the code of those modules?

In the Documentation link you will find XOOPS Operations Guide, it will teach you about xoops. They are nice manuals from which the basic XOOPS processes can be learned.

if phpbb has ldap support I think you can connect both the XOOPS user database with the phpbb one, you would need the latest XOOPS version though = 2.0.14

If it's just upgrade of the XOOPS system, everything will go ok if you follow the instructions. (I think the upgrade folder goes inside XOOPS root folder)

If you will overwite the spanish language files too make sure they have the same charset language encoding as the file you have right now.

After reading many posts, I am in favor of the module packs. Core should still be left as core for now, and backups can be done through phpMyAdmin.

I have tried the Backpack module, I like it so far. I don't know if some documenation can be improved or not, but I've been happy with XOOPS so far.
