I recently upgrdaded cbb from 1.13 to 1.15 using XOOPS 2.0.13.2 and php version: 4.4.1

I've in home page a block with most recent posts from forum...if I try to change some preferences from Admin -> blocks -> most recent topics I don't have any errors (also activing php debug) but some parameters don't change!
For example "time period" is setted to 1 and I cant't change that number! If I try to change "Allowed forum list" I can select the right forum but when I submit changes they aren't registered!
I also tried to upgrade cbb module and when I do so I obtain the original value before module's upgrading.

Is it possible to downgrade to 1.14 or 1.13? Or better is there a solution?

Tnx

This has been a sad month in XOOPS history.

I think the last two months:
2005/06/24: Version 2.0.11
2005/06/28: Version 2.0.12
2005/06/29: Version 2.0.12a
2005/07/02: Version 2.0.13
2005/07/14: Version 2.2 RC
2005/07/21: Version 2.2 RC2
2005/07/27: Version 2.2 stable
2005/08/08: Version 2.2.1

And other two version (2.2.2 and 2.0.13.1) that have to come!

10 different version in less than 50 days certainly mean something!

IMHO the best way to make something is make it good!
I'know that this thing is more difficult to implement in software development but if a new version is necessary every week something don't go in the development.
My criticism want be constructive and not destructive of your good job....

Kumar you can ignore Notice [PHP] but my advice is continue to use 2.0.13 at least till xoops.org won't use 2.2 version.
If developers themselves don't use 2.2 for official site this means they don't completely believe in 2.2'stability and so it's better for a normal site don't use it!

This thing confirms what lots of people think: 2.2 version was realsed too much prematurely!
What's the sense of a new verion every week? Why don't extend the release candidate period if XOOPS 2.2 was so bugged?! Moreover it's incompatible with lots of modules....

However I'm happy that 2.0 version will be still developed because I think I'll continue to use this good and stable version for lots of time

Absolutely not...2.2 is a young version with lots of new things born without necessary tests and presents lots of incompatibility with external modules.
Think...this site is Xoops'official site and stiil use 2.0.13 that's the version I suggest you if you don't want lots of problem.

Probably ver 2.2 isn't a good choice at the moment for a working site.
You should consider to use 2.0.13 that's more stable and bug free than 2.2.
Infact this site, that's the official Xoops'site, still use 2.0.13 and I think they'll continue to use this version for much time because 2.2 was a premature version born without necessary tests and without compatibility

Another thing I discovered just now is the following: admin can change only displayname and not login name...or at least I'm unable to change it

If I'm not wrong this choice is useless for existing sites and security because an admin (that's the only user that could appreciate this thing in terms of security) can't use this security "improvement".

But probably I'm wrong and there's a way to change my login name otherwise it would be a big big bug in my opinion.

Please tell me how can change my login name because if I change username in Edit account I've no effects.

Still...is it normal that a normal user can't change his Displayname? I think yes but it colud be the same error that dont't let me change my username

I'm happy to read lots of posts that agree, partially or totally, with me.

I know Mith is right when he speaks about security but he probably forgot that site's usability is as important as security, or probably more, because in security there's nothing definitive but it's a continue discovering new holes and repairing them while if you put a strange mode for login it remains and it's felt so by all users every day, every login....and I think that each webmaster think first of all about his own users's feeling.

Mine is just an opinion and not a protest...I'm sorry if you mean it wrong.
First of all, before your post, I wrongly considered this feature only from an usability and user's poit of view....and for this I'm sorry.
Then I appreciate your efforts toward security of XOOPS but you should consider to implement this important feauture as optional or (I don't know if it's possible) at least limited to webmaster's login that's the most important account to protect, or, still, permit to choose what groups must use this surest feature and what not.

Obviosly it's just my opnion, and I add, it's a newbie's opnion!

Since next version XOOPS will implement a new type of rgistration form and login including both a "username" (used for login) and a "displayname" (showed to community).

Who agree says:
"We think this is an important feature for two reasons:
1. security - if the name being displayed is different from your loginname, no one can hack into your account by guessing your password, because he would also have to guess your loginname
2. usability - choose a simple loginname and have a smooth looking display name"

Who disagree says:
"This solution is against usability bucause lots of people, that are accustomed to use just username and password, could not understand what registration form mean and could do lots of error in login or just confuse between username and displaynam if they choose them different.
If you speak about usability you should consider to implement autologin not as a separate hack but in the core or at least like an option that a webmaster can choose.
If you speak about security our advice is to use SSL in XOOPS if you have very very important user's data to protect. But in a tipical Xoops' site this feature is a paranoic exaggeration in security to protect nothing more than an email address"

Please express your opinion about it
