well a DIY sounds cool but then i dont know how to seperate the fields and customize them..

anyway the demo you posted on this topic is EXACTLY what i wanted, apart from:

-this date of birth option which would be really useful

-the dhtml buttons for the "biography" section

otherwise the rest of the fields are perfect!

Thanks again,

Rom

Hey m0nty I was thinking of a minor change you could implement which would make the profile much more precise:

Instead of asking the age of the user, make the script ask the date of birth, then calculate the age according to the present date.

Because if you leave it like that when people have their bdays they won't think about changing the age in their profile, and after one year all the age entries will be false.

Cheers,

Rom

Hey man it looks great!!! Nice work!

May I make a fiew suggestions:

1/ instead of having two entries, "extra info" and "biography", why not have a single entry with all the buttons for text color/size/add link/add external picture like when u post a message on the forum (like where im typing right now), so that the user can personalize the last part of the profile.

I've seen it on many sites it looks cool and gives some freedom to members to express themselves.

2/ maybe the picture (portrait) uploaded by users should appear right at the top of the page (above: all about...)

Otherwise this is I think gonna be the best XOOPS hack I've seen. Can't wait till you finish it!

Ok cool well when u finished translating the image upload (most important part i think) and testing it can u send the updated version together with details instructions notes?

The reason I am saying that is that in the readme file the guy is saying that in order to install the hack you not only need to edit these files but also edit the database itself, which can be quite tricky for some people who don't master php.

cheers :)

hehe i see loads of people are interested.

ok i have uploaded the files to my server so you can download it here: Profile Hack

this hack if from a french coder, he had included a text file to explain how he did his hack, but its in french...

Anyway hope someone can convert this as it is an amazing hack.

This guy also made a block that displays all the users online (like the Who's Online block) but where guys have blue links and girls pink links. Great block for people wanting to create a "dating/make friends" community. It uses the variables from the Profile hack.

Hi guys I have finally found the hack everyone is asking for, the one which transforms the user info page by adding an "ID Card" where webmasters can specify many more fields for the users to fill in plus the ability for them to upload their own picture (in addition to the avatar!), as seen here: ID Profile Hack

Here is a link to the files of this superb hack: Profile hack files

Unfortunately this hack is for XOOPS Version 1. If anyone could convert it so that it is XOOPS 2.0.7 compatible I would very much appreciate it (even pay for it).

I have browsed through the forums and so many people have asked for this particular feature I think this would seriously benefit the XOOPS Community.

Thanks in advance!

2. A few (or definable) more fields in profile.

If you do add more fields, I think that these three fields are essential in addition to the "Location" field:

-Date of Birth (or age but then when the user is older it wont be updated. Or maybe the script can update it?)

-Gender (dropdown box with male or female)

-Occupation

If GD will be invoulved, and option in Admin side to attach small thumb in the "list view" and to define it's width + hight.

I agree with tzvook it would really make the module much more esthetic and useful to have a thumbmail of the photo in the main listing area.

You could have the same thumbmail on the actual profile and then when you click on it have the full photo in a popup window.

Finally I personally think that blocks are not the priority right now.

Keep up the good work Daniel!

Ok, im adding the features that are requested and that i think would work for most people.

have already added to 0.9:

1. Admin can choose to allow users to link to their XOOPS User Profile.
2. Users can select whether to enable this per profile.
3. There is now a second text area to hold an extended description.

thanks a lot hyperpod, can't wait for version 0.9
