using xoops files offline

I always used XOOPS on live internet.

Is it possible to back up files from my hosting company onto a CD so I can run it onto my laptop? What about the database how would the files find the database?

If this is possible how do I go about it? I know I will have to copy all the files first.

Any ideas?

Thank you all of you for guiding me in the right direction. I have decided to do the system and module language files first. Its a bit of work as Maltese is not easy to translate, its a bit llike Italian with a mixture of Arabic........Anyway would be nice to have another language in the ever growing XOOPS international languages

I want to have XOOPS core files translated into my own language Maltese. I will be using the English version to translate into Maltese, but what files need to translate to show all the words in Maltese?

The Realty module has an auto listings for selling cars, in my case it needs to be for car hiring and probably needs some sort of calendar to show the time hire period.

Yes I did.
I checked the database and it did show there was a problem with the table xoops_sessions, did the repair job successfully and tried to login in again. No luck, and worse I lost the index pages (they became blank pages) for these modules xdonations and myAlbim. The rest of the modules weren't effected as far as I can tell.

all of a sudden Serious login problems

Help needed here please!
All of a sudden when I login to my site as a webmaster, I enter successfully the user and password........also successfully it gives me the message "thank you for logging in......." and then the next page that follows instead of showing me the user menu it logs me out as if I never logged in the firspage.
I like to tell you that I haven't upgraded any modules or any files. I think my site was hacked

I need your expert advise.

The log file is a symbolic link. Infact I cannot download it through ftp or open the file on the server. So I cannot teel you what's about. Also I don't seem to have access using SSH.
I will contat the host company to see what they can co from their side.
