I would like to create a group of users that have access to a module, it doesn't matter which module right now. It seems that you have to grant access to the module in the "Registered Users" group at a minimum to see the module in the main menu.

Removing access to the module via "Registered Users" denies a user access to a module even if they are in a "group" that says they do have access. Am I doing this wrong or is this really the way module/user permissions work. I can't get XOOPS to allow a "group" of registered users to see something that all other registered users shouldn't.

XoopsVersion 2.0.13.2
MySQLVersion 4.1.20
PHPVersion 4.3.11

Thanks

Can't put "News" on main page

Although I can click the news button on the main menu and see it, I can't put "recent news" or "news topics" etc on the main page. News does not appear in "Block description" of the Blocks Admin page for the "Top Page".

Version is 2.0.13.2

Thanks

I have figured out how to add buttons to the main menu that launch a page of my choosing by adding code to the "system_block_mainmenu.html" file, but this shows the buttons to unregistered users. How do I do this such that I can use a "group" and prevent just anyone from seeing the buttons in the main menu?

Thanks

I'm not an expert but I've tried on three different distros to install XOOPS 2.x, from a fresh install, with php5 and none worked of them worked. Down grading PHP to 4.x made them all work. I'm not saying you can't make them work with PHP5 but the problem isn't in mainfile.php if just downgrading to php4 makes it work. I want to find the problem with V5 but at this point I just need XOOPS to work with no muss, no fuss and php4 does that. Thanks for pointing us to the FAQ though. When you installed initially, did XOOPS work with php5? Or did you have to troubleshoot something to make it work. Nowadays, I just want stuff to work, I'm tired of futzing with things, trying this and that. This stuff should just work or a work around should be documented. That work around as far as I'm concerned is PHP4.

Back off to PHP 4. Version 5 doesn't seem to work for some reason with Xoops.

Downgrade to PHP V4. It worked for me.

Here is an article on installing php4 on fc4:http://www.mjmwired.net/resources/mjm-php4-fc4.html

I haven't figured out as of yet why V5 doesn't work.

Do you know of a module in the XOOPS repository that implements what you have described?

Thanks
