Some of my support site are same.
It's not work with $_FILES. It back error no.6.
It's wired. $_FILES have only 0 - 4 error.

It seems miss setting about folder dir.
If the cms folder mean XOOPS root then you have to set '/upload/' and '/upload/thumbs/'.

Did you make a thumbs folder?
Default setting is
xoops/uploads ---> upload folder
xoops/uploads/thumbs ---> thumbnail folder
and try zip or pdf first.
Image uploading need a PHP GD-libraly.

I don't know what is the problem. It's under the BSD license.
Anyway, I ported phpESP to XOOPS.
