Re: Install two xoops sites onto one hosting account?

You may want to use XSAS...
Which is an all-in-one download and installer for a local copy of Xoops, PHP, Apache, and MySQL.

Re: Lost a customer

Anyone else nominating Tamerlane for Xoopser community member of the year?

...lost another loan to ditech...

Here is a thread dealing with his problem... perhaps he is using an Microsoft IIS server... however, he didn't say.
IIS and mainfile.php

Probably the "solution" is manual installation until people figue out if there is an IIS 6 specific problem.

Re: How can i add "hi,username" in the user menu?

Yeah, I don't think you need to do a core hack for this.

You could put it in your theme, as suggested. However, if you want it in the User Menu...

Add the code provided above to the User Menu block. (If you are going to edit a system block, might as well make a backup copy of it before you start making changes.)

Even better, in my opinion, is to create a Custom Block with the code.

Yes, this can effect performance.

If that's not enough, you can also enable the cache for areas of your site that don't change as often.

Having said all that, most XOOPS sites do not appear to the user to be slower than html. There may be a problem with the connection to your host's MySQL server... or other hosting issues.

As others pointed out, the Xoops.org site loads fast. My site loads fast. The majority of XOOPS sites I've seen load fast (unless they have a site info block turned on).

Re: Good, at least basic, example of tableless theme/template?

You can check these themes by haran out athttp://oswd.org/

Purple Haze is likely the simplest to convert to XOOPS format:
"Haze" at oswd.org

I hope that helps.

Re: Is this website made with Xoops?

You are both right...
You get the HTML and JavaScript code, errr um, output (and any other code that is served). You don't get code that is intercepted by a preprocessor.

I think it is OK to say "you get the code" however, it is a fair point that some code may be intercepted by the preprocessor before being server, and that you only get the code from the rendered page.

Re: using XOOPS for an easy life

Yes, sir. In fact, I would say that is a key benefit of a CMS.

You can give different users various levels of access so that they can edit material.

Likewise, if you have a product catalog that is continually updated, you can use a catalog or store module to keep existing product profiles available... or you could use WFSections if you don't find a store or catalog module you like.

Yes, you can carry your design over to Xoops. You can even edit your theme in Dreamweaver. Also, if you have a lot of static pages that you just want to carry into your XOOPS layout, you can use something like Tinycontent or Freecontent, which allows you to do that easily.

This should help: http://wiki.xoops.org/wakka.php?wakka=ThemeHowTo

Also, if you search for "Dreamweaver" in the site search engine, you may find additional help.

A couple differences you will find. XOOPS uses CSS for colors and font sizes (which is not to say that your theme can't hard code them in the page... just that ultimately you may want to move to CSS, which helps you create cleaner xhtml anyways.

Anyways, I hope that gets you started. As you come up with new questions, first use the search engine to see what you can find. You may also find help in the XOOPS Documentation menu on the left. (This may provide help to your other users, as well, when you train them). And, as always, if you don't see it in the Docs, or a search finds nothing, XOOPS has a very helpful community... so ask and we will try to help.

Welcome to Xoops.

Re: Looking for a good chat module.

FlashChat, at $5, is great if your users need an easy to use chat interface. It is great looking and easy to use for the users. This pays for future upgrades, as well, which are ongoing.

Installation was a breeze, and with the XOOPS integration instructions, it will use the XOOPS login. It also automatically uses the "Who's Online" block to indicate that people are in chat.

The only down sides are, it costs $5 and your users need to install Flash.

Re: Is Xoops a registred mark ?

There is a domain dispute resolution policy from ICANN... I believe it is international, though perhaps it is USA only.

Re: Avatars upload but wont show??

Did you resolve this? Most of my users can upload, but I am getting a report from one who says he receives a message "no file uploaded"
