Is there anyway of telling a block where on the page it is being presented. I would like to offer a different layout depending on whether it was a side or central block...

I like the idea. I think I cam eup with an idea similar to this a few weeks ago. I just haven't had the time to sit back and work out how to develop it. The idea was to create a personal home page module.

In admin, the webmaster chooses which blocks would be available on this page. you would also be able to decide which blocks are mandatory (push) and which are optional (pull) as well as deciding which are default.

The user, from a user side admin page would then be presented with a page similar to the System->Blocks page where they could choose the layout of their blocks. optional blocks could be turned on and off while mandatory blocks just moved from column to column.

On displaying the module homepage through, the blocks would be presented to the theme as they would normally, but based on the users choices.

I spent 18 months working with Broadvision Infoexchange which used this principle to define user configurable home pages. I'm sure this is possible through XOOPS and would be a good module to contribute. Would anyone be prepared to help me with this?

Guys,

Thanks for your answers. I might build a machine, install and see what happens. Reading through the blurb it did say closer interoperability with MySQL was coming.

It would be interesting to see what internal functions of XOOPS could be dropped to the stored procedure layer and whether that would benefit performance.

It's good to know that MySQL is capable of handling the number of rows. I've spec'd a platform with 2 RAID5 database servers. The plan is to replicate the MySQL installation. That would probably help with performance also. So there are still a few options open to me.

I was just curious that's all...

From what I'm seeing here I think you've got a messd up install. My suggestion would be to delete the site, remove the database and start again.

First things first. The "contents" of the HTML directory should be copied to your server directory. Therefore instead of having /XooPs/html you will end up with just /XooPs which I think is what you are looking for.

Remember that XOOPS builds the path for images and all folders from this location. It can be changed but its best to get it right first time.

Finally don't dispair of give too quickly. If you can, run an install on a local machine. If you have a Windows based PC I have used SWAMP-0.2 (http://sourceforge.net/projects/swamp/) to create a local Apache/MySQL/PHP environment to test under. I found that running a local installation enabled my to understand what was going on and made it easier for my first remote install.

Hope this helps,

Has anyone tried running XOOPS over "MaxDB from MySQL"?

I am scoping a project (95k members - 200k members) and was worried that MySQL might not hack it. However it appears that the guys at MySQL have done the biz and created an open source SAP certified database with many additional features not in the base MySQL.

I know I could d/l and try it myself, but its always worth asking first to see whether anyone has succeeded or has any tips & tricks...

Is anybody else having problems downloading the latest stable release. I've tried all the Source Forge mirrors, but they either hang or report file not found.

Cheers,

Is this a member specific default theme? I would like to be able the site to remember the users theme selection and use it when they return to the site.

I would also like this to apply if the user has been cookied and can be detected. Is this possible?

And with 2.1 it should be able to set the theme if the user has ticked "Remember Me". Will this also be the case?

Cheers,

Do you know what happens when you delete your templates_c folder?

I do. If you get errors like I did in this threadhttps://xoops.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=15425&forum=3&post_id=64379 then the templates_c folder has disappeared.

Don't know how, maybe I deleted by accident in Dreamweaver, but it disappeared. My site (http://partners.insightexec.com/) is now back and running smoothly.

Thanks to Herko and CBlue for supporting me. In the end it was this threadhttps://xoops.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=15427&forum=21&post_id=64385 that pointed me in the direction of the templates_c folder. I then I noticed it was gone!

Hope this helps someone else in the future...
