When news item is entered with a graphic. If the text area doesn't in rows cover the height of the graphic, the graphic drops below and out of the news block. The bottom borders of the block do not descend below the graphic.

Strange inconsistent appearance. Is there a fix for this?
==========================top border=================|
------- Now is the first time for all good men
|-----| Now is the second time for all good men
|-jpg-|=================bottom border================|
|-----|
-------

Do you get the picture

I really don't want to be editing news items

I thought it had to do with the user entering text in the second extended text box, when the first box wasn't full.

That's not it. It there isn't enough text in rows to include the graphic size in vertical rows the bottom border moves up and cuts into the graphic. If you have two such situations you have a confusing situation at best.

It can be fixed, but it will require users to not be able to submit directly. The admin will have to enter a text item at or below the bottom of the graphic.

Sooooo is there a fix or hack for this?

Marquee horz scroll for boards and site - looking for this mod

I built an XOOPS 1+ site with a horizontal scroll, which was an instant notification between users online. I pieced it together as I recall from the Innconneu scroll and a guest book. The scroll maintained about 10 messages scrolling continually. FIFO was the rule for scrolling messages.

Regardless, has anyone done a mod for 2.0.6 that has a small entry box for user to user communication via a scrolling marquee. It's not like a chat.

How it works. User1 clicks open a small entry box, types in a message that goes out for all users online to view. Whenever user2 sees a message of interest scrolling...user2 clicks anywhere on the scrolling message and a popup entry box opens and user2 enters a response. The response is immediately forwarded to user1.(not to the scrolling marquee). The message on the scrolling marquee is instantly deleted from the scroll upon the proper user's clickon the scrolled text.

It's a real slick mod, and users love it. Especially on forums, on a line just below the header. Users don't have to PM to contact someone.

Also, it's good for just putting some general question and anyone on the boards can respond, if open response is pre-set when the message is created and put for scroll.

Additionally, when there are no comms between users the marquee just scrolls with the latest topic subjects posted on the forums. When a user clicks on a scrolling topic the user is immediately linked to the relative posting, but the scrolling topic text continues to scroll.

The scrolling messages between users are a different color than scrolling topics from the forums.

I did see a news scrolling marquee tool recently, which is similar, but that is a conventional tool. I'm talking about an un-conventional tool here.

Themes that are same for IPB and Xoops are there any?

Need some continuity between the Invision Boards and Xoops. The Koudanshi mod is what I'm using, but that baby blue theme is just...not going to cut it for the sites I'm building. I need some heavy blues and darks, but easy on the eye stuff. Don't need the extreme gamer type themes.

I'd appreciate suggestions or links. I'm need to finish and put up one site for indexing like yesterday. Maybe some suggestions on a couple themes that are close enough might work.

The XOOPS default site would even work if there was an IPB counterpart.

Looks pretty good, but just be weary about deviating from the core of XOOPS as otherwise you'll complicate your upgrade path.

Not arguing here, but the PAfiledb is in it's own separate folder and has it's own MySQL db. All I'm providing is a link to it and from it...to mysite.com

It's a standalone php script.

unless you can see something I don't.

See it working for real on Dana site for XOOPS Themes download

This is where I found it.

Upload your files with an FTP program. I use SmartFTP it's free and works great. Not hard too learn to use either.

FAQ or WF-FAQ do they allow user submits?

I'm working on a site with a need for a big FAQ thingy. Normally, I don't put any mods or changes onto live sites without getting feedback. So I'm asking...

To start the FAQ mod needs:

The ability for users with group permissions to submit FAQs for publication on the site, but submitted FAQs must be approved before they're published.

The ability to apply graphics within the FAQ

I'm using a php script called:
PAFILEDB - an upload and downloads utility

I use the multi menu to link to it and it has a nav button to return to homepage. It has permission package built into it along with a very competent downloads utility.

Until we get something better in Xoops...I stikin' wit it.

I'm not ragging on Xoops, everyone is pretty unhappy with the mydownloads mod at present.

This Max100 is doing promo the site he keeps mentioning.

I'd say you want to stop this it you don't use the hosting he keeps mentioning. I'm not saying it's bad hosting or anything. This is a sneaky approach to getting web devs to look at what he's got.

He's probably driving everyone else nuts on other dev forums as well.

He got me on one his twit posts...I tried helping him with an issue just like others have.

This guy has made his point, maybe he should be kicked off these boards.

LOL

I use the multi menu and link to the pafiledb. It is very simple to use, and a competent script. Permissions are much better than the "uploader", and users cannot see the database as a flat file.

You can create teams/groups with permissions. It is also an excellent download module. The permissions are not quite like what we deal with in Xoops, since it more easily lends itself to anonymous downloads. You can conceal the module by making setting group permissions. After the user has been there once and knows the linking it would be hard to inhibit use of the downloads.

VERY GOOD THIRD PARTY NON-XOOPS UP/DOWNLOAD SCRIPT pafiledb

THe script also has a "homesite" item in the header for easy editing to get back to your XOOPS home page.

I'm not saying this script is better, just a viable alternative. We still badly need a good fully XOOPS download module.

I was trying to edit the /templates/files.* as you mentioned, the default theme. However, I'm not sure it would have made a difference in which theme templates I was trying to edit the way I resolved the issue.

Here is what I did, without cloning as you mentioned.

1)Found the respective modules/moduleX/templates/files.*

2)Made the changes in ///templates/files.* and saved each file.

3)Then went back into admin CP to system/modules/ and updated moduleX.

Just because the editing is done and saved, it does not mean the actual updating of modules is done. Updating modules, it appears is a manual task.

hsalazar your posting is a good explanation. Coupled with this one, it should help Xoopers.

Happy Easter
