php or html for dummies?

Another important question here...is there a doc or site I can go to that will give me the basics of coding for formatting text and paragraphs in my articles? Or what do you suggest I use for WSYWYG editor that I can then copy and paste coded text into files with? This would be good because then I can work offline...

install theme or extra modules first?

Hi all - another basic question. I was wondering if you could advise me as to what to install first - I have a theme ready to upload and a few modules I would like to try...should I do the theme first or work on the modules and make sure they work first?

BTW...doing happy dances cos everything seems to be working well right now!

I've given up on fantastico and downloaded smart FTP. In setting up I have trying to connect

- It goes like this

SmartFTP v1.0.982.36

I have Nortons Internet security on my system and i have to turn it off in order for posts to this forum to work...I have included xoops.org on the trusted sites setting but still having problems...I fear it may be causing problems in other ways too...does anyone else have an idea of what I need to do in order to be able to post without turning off my Internet Security? Thanks

I have been doing my homework, been to XOOPS for dummies, managed to get the bug report working and now I am stuck again...still bugs and no acces to admin.
Parse error: parse error, unexpected '}' in /home/jensclas/public_html/include/common.php on line 284

Does this mean I find a } on line 284 in the common.php file ? Then what? Delete it?

Is there an easy way to find line 284? Is there a kind soul who will volunteer to find it for me? Any ideas on how to be given permission for admin would be good too - but am about to explore my cpanel and myphp for that....again some direction would be good. Thanks
