Hey Simeon!

We are just working on a project named "XOOPS Theme Forge" (which amongst hosting design specific projects, will host a vast collection of articles regarding theme, and web design), and it would be great if you could prepare an article, so that others may gain from your experience....

Would you feel up to it? Then please contact me or StudioC via PM

Regards

JasonMR

Please look into the left sidebar of this page. You will see something that XOOPS referes to as block, actually there are multiple blocks, but I am refering to a specific block named "Documentation".

Click on the links provided in this block and read the documentation provided.

I especially recommend A Visual Introduction to XOOPS, as well as the XOOPS FAQ, which should be the most proficient assistence in your current situation.

Thank You!

Just create a seperate page, that includes the content of the original page + that extra info they want (lay it out, so that it "looks block like"), and place a link to this seperate on the original page, and call the link so they understand that it will allow them to see, what they are asking for.

Does this help?

I understand what you want and Mithrandir correct me if I'm wrong, but this is not possible, because XOOPS is currently lacking a Hook System (M. is working on it though).

I believe Rowds suggestion is what you need to look at, in your situation. So instead of providing your folks, with different Group-Specific-HTML-Pages, you should try out Group-Specific-Menues, or does this interfere too much with your site concept?

What is the difference between zip, tar, tar.gz?

As m0nty explained, zip and tar are compression methods.

I just wanted to add, that you will also see tar.gz, or tar.bz2
-> same thing: compression methods, mainly employed with *nix systems (Unix, Mac OS X, Linux, FreeBSD, etc...)

What's the difference?
Efficiency!

So which is best?
This depends on the type of data, as well as the data itself you are compressing, and is best tested in each individual case (if necessary to know exactly). Though there is a general rule of thumb:
.tar is the most unefficient of the four, with tar.gz being the most efficient, with zip in the top middle field.

Having said that the t-compression methods are meant for *nix systems, they can be also utilized on win boxes. Herefore you will need a nother piece of GNU-GPL software called 7-Zip.

Hope this also helps...

@Mithrandir: Sorry, for being quick to jump the gun, I follow you now. As you impelement classes and functions, which are released under GPL, your code is requiered to be GPL, and as you rightfully say "no matter what the client says or does". Good business practice, and out of respect for your clients needs, you follow your clients demands, which might be, not to release the code to the public. And as a great negotiator, you try to get the client to release the code at some stage, as this will also benefit the client.

Great thing!

SmartPartner can be found at dev.xoops.org, or at the developers group web site Smart Factory. By the way, this module has been developed by Marcan (...and I need to check those language files, sorry Marcan, haven't forgoten about your projects).

2 weeks, 8h, concentrated effort, basic features? No, can be done.

Hope this helps....

Now there is a slight difference between

... and "...user can see and edit..."!

Just needed to point this out.
