So here is the plan....

I'm thinking of launching an online entertainment and music magazine, but the one concern I have is the articles. I'd like to use Soapbox because it looks fantastic. The only problem is that I want my writers to be able to do their articles in more than one column. If I use soapbox, it seems like only one person will be able to write the articles for one column. Doing that means that no other writers would be able to do articles for other columns and have it show up as theirs...it would show as the person who heads the column.

Any suggestions? Maybe a way to work this out to use soapbox? Or is it something I am missing in soapbox? I'm just curious as to what everyone else uses for article management, in particular for something like this.

MyAlbum sounds like it would work fine for that type of thing. I use MyAlbum on one site, and xCgal on another site. MyAlbum is great because it is only an image gallery without the extra features that xCgal has, like private albums, the ecard thing, stuff like that. It would be needless for what you want to do. I'd say to go with MyAlbum.

Yeah, coppermine hates Safe mode, as I have also discovered. The Invision Board mod acts a little funny with it too, but I think it has a work around for that in it.

Personally, I left one host because they have safemode on and refuse to turn it off...and the fact that they use Ensim and I hate Ensim with a passion Mel Gibson couldn't imagine.

What will be your purpose for using xcgal? What I mean is, will it be a massive blow to your site if you don't use it?

(I use xcgal)

>>Anything Taking Up More Than 5% Of System Resources

most other hosts I have been to say 10%, and for $9.95 you tend to get more space and bandwith. However, they blatently advertise chatrooms and message boards so I'm assuming they are going to be able to handle a site that makes the most of these two resource hogs.

How is the uptime?
And what is your site address?

Their prices seem to be a bit outragous as compared to others.

I switched from Hostonic to Surpass Hosting a few months ago because Hostonic has horrible service. I was going to use eboundmedia but they took my $4 and never activated my account, never answered my emails, and deleted all of my support tickets.

Yeah, see that's my problem. My site can potentially be a resource killer, so I need somewhere that I can grow with someone who I trust to be able to manage the system properly. This guy does this type of stuff for a living, so I'm pretty confident leaving it on his site. Besides, he runs a similar site, xmike.com, but uses his own code. We've had hundreds of users online at the same time in the forum alone, which doesn't count the tons of people who were viewing the image rating parts of the site. He's good like that

However, I'm looking into getting a dedicated box eventually. Too bad no one has used Kooshin..well, so far atleast.

This did not work out how I planned it, there was still a space for a title above the block and you could see it was "missing" a title. Adding some logic to not show the title part of the block if there is no title seems to be what's needed here.

I think that is more theme related because I have made themes before that will not include that part if I don't put in a title.

I've checked them out before too, but they have a TOS that prevents me from using them. The fact that they won't allow any kind of adult material at all voids my 18+ area of my forum, and I'd rather not have to bend my own site around just for the host like that. Kooshin won't allow mp3 files which screws up my music site ("my" as in the music I make)...which I was going to power with XOOPS but it's a bit of overkill for the site. Using XOOPS on my personal music site would be like killing an ant with a hydrogen bomb.

Right now I'm under Surpass Hosting's 1st reseller plan...$10 a month, 3 gigs of space.

I'm also using my friend Mike's hosting for my forum/image host. $10 a month, gig of space, 25 of bandwith, plus him there in case i need something specific.

They seem to have some pretty restrictive Terms of Service, but they have some intresting prices. However, some of these seem a bit off:

Reseller Account #4
$35/month
25gigs of space
25gigs of bandwith.

Semi-dedicated box
$35/month
20gigs of space
350gigs of bandwith

That's 5 gigs less in space but 14x more bandwith. Some of this doesn't seem to make sense.

Anyone use them or hear anything about them?

Someone needs to tell him to make sure his config file for the board is set right. I tried to email him but it bounced back.

edit: nevermind, he fixed it
