Re: Post Message

Have you got access to yoursite.admin.php? That is the admin page - check to see that you can access al on that page - if not then you will need to check your tables and see that you are the webmaster.

Re: Three silly questions...

1. PM is part of the core so it should be working in your user menu.
2. Comments are turned on or off via invidiual modules - eg news - allow comments yes/no and comments are allowed/not allowed by abobymous/registered etc. Check the features of each of your modules.
3. - sorry - can't help there

Re: How do I upgrade?

Hmmm will need to update that FAQ! Ok

You have FTP because you have installed modules so I assume you know how to use that.

Go to download xoops and download the upgrade package to your desktop or other appropriate place (I have a folder in my downloads called XOOPS - thats where they go)

Unzip the download.

Now go to the release notes and follow the instructions under Upgrading from a previous version Use your ftp program to make the transfer. It is a good idea to do a folder at a time to ensure everything gets transferred and not corrupted along the way. (Unless you are confident your ftp program gets everything right all the time and your ftp session will not break.)

NOTE: Before you go to the websites upgrade address change the chmod on your mainfile.php to 777 so it is writeable.

it is as simple as that -

PS - It's not in the instructions - when you are finished write protect mainfile.php again - chmod 444

Re: Error: mainmenu not writeable

This FAQ is all about chmod - please check it out. If it doesn;t help you will need to supply information about what your were attemtping to do when you got the error message.

Re: Module File for Not Found! - Save Xoops from Joomla!

Question 1: What was the module that made everything go pear shaped???

general advice:
Don't know if this will help but maintaining file integrity when you unzip a downloaded module is really important. You ftp program could also be dodgy - I have tried a few and ended up with smart ftp which gives me very little grief.

The next thing to consider is make sure you are uploading current modules that go with the current version of xoops.

Please make sure you have followed the module unzip and upload steps in the tutorials link below:

New users should always checkout the following:
1. Documentation - linked on the left. Specifically the administration manual
2. The FAQ section - linked on the left - specifically the sections on gloassry, beginners first steps, modules, blocks and themes. There are links to visual tutorials here.
3. The search function on the top right.
Please check also the read B4U post link below if you have problems.

For Visual tutorials please go here

Re: Upgrading major problems

First of all debug has changed - if you turn on inline mode it will appear at the bottom of your site and click 'all' and it will show you the full range of errors etc.

Second 'notice' is not considered an 'error' as such but a warning that something is not quite right with the code language. Generally they are not errors that cause what is happening at your site - 'warning' and 'error' on the otherhand are a problem - and in this case I see none of those.

If the backened on cbb is working ok and it is just a problem with the way it looks on your front page my guess is it is a theme or template problem.

Make sure your blocks and permissions are set properly first.

I would suggest some investigation in that area - or a post in the theme/template troubleshooting forum with a subject header that will get the attention of the right support people eg - - CBB 3.08 not renedering properly in my front page.

Sorry i don;t know enough about themes and templates to help you sort it out.

Re: Selected module does not exist!

You still haven't reported which XOOPS version you are trying to install. Another thing we also don't know is which php version??? Have you actually read the full read before you post yet??

- it's a bit over my head so I am guessing.

(You could try doing it this way - delete all till now - download and install 'wamp5' which is a local host server and has php and MySQL etc in it. Create a new www project called xoops. Set it up and install XOOPS to that - where XOOPS says to install to a specific root folder on wamp you install it to the www folder.A pity docs workspace is down - there is a full tutorial there. )There are tutorials on using wamp5 online - use googlesearch. BTW - using local host means you don't change the chmod on files - you have to check a files properties and uncheck 'read only'.

Re: Selected module does not exist!

wierd! What XOOPS version? If you haven't installed a module it may be the admin module that did not oad properly - I would start over - nothing to lose.

There is an installation support doc at the docs site, and those tutorials I referred to I think also have installtion guides.

since it is 'localhost' what MySQL and apache versions are you using - that may help too. If you could describe your setup more clearly someone my identify the problem.
