Hi mambo has it, moodle has it.
Would it be difficult to implement this in xoops? (might be realated to metacat module)

Hi, I wanted to ask, if there are any strategies to make XOOPS more admin-friendly ?
why mambo is so popular (they said they have 5million users - though probably not all of them are admins )

Because first steps are as easy and comfortable as possible.
to my mind XOOPS
* installation is also OK
* configuration is kind of boring - setting it for the first time took me 1 or 2 hours.
* administration is a bit confusing - (for example) You make block visible and think its ok, but quite often I forget o assign right group permisions. why? because - those permisions are on the other panel. - I'd propose to combine blocks and grousp in some more comfortable way.
* changin design - is quite tedious (probably thats why we dont have so big versatility as mambo),
- first You have to study CSS ( I think it would be enough to have side_blocks (instead of right, left), and center_blocks (instead of cr, cc, cl) groups )
- then layouts: browsing to the right template takes some time - and if I need to edit in several places, and then check out, and then edit again.. (tabbed browsing helps, but still); and preview is not very useful, as it shows just independent blocks correctly.
* dynamic drop-down menu (don't you think it's comfortable?) Though but this is quite esasy to find/make yourself..

hi, it saves time, if
1) You see sth wrong in some place ,
2) and You have a direct link to edit it in place

so You don't have to waste time to look for appropriate piece of template in admin panel

You could have small (pop-up) links/buttons directly to edit theese layouts (in the recent template set). Probably a small (SMARTY?) hack would be enough.

ps.: and I would like to have template set repository (would be kind of Mambo-modules thing).

if Your sub'menus are not changing very often - I'd propose just make a html (or may be php) block, and fill it manually - as I don't know such a module.

well WF-sections has a bility to build menu tree of it's own contents.

if You want horizontal menu - try TigraMenu.http://wiki.xoops.org/wakka.php?wakka=DynamicMenu

I already proposed some more concentrated show/access rights panel:
https://xoops.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=17176&forum=10#forumpost72400
or directly
http://soften.ktu.lt/~jurgpral/etc/xoops_block_admin.gif

if some work with js would be needed, let me know, I'd try to help :).

Hi,
It took me half an hour to find out how to import 'tsg_gold' mambo theme layout.
my experiences are here:
http://wiki.xoops.org/wakka.php?wakka=MamboThemeImport

So, a highway to mambo design is open, just use it .

ps.: in mambo they call 'theme' a 'template' - strange people :)

Tigra menu is proposed by XOOPS devs, for its simplicity as contents, style and its action is separated.http://www.softcomplex.com/products/tigra_menu/

Also some problems I encountered and solved
https://xoops.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=14804&post_id=68833&order=0&viewmode=thread&pid=0&forum=3#forumpost68833

You can check my case @http://somsa.ktusa.lt , just my solution is hardcoded into Dana theme. Once (somewhen in winter) there were talks about releasing a tigra_menu module..

some more ideas

give a link to the page/site, where You saw similar thing.

I guess, You can have html in You news topics, so javascript can be embeded as usually in html (in case You don't need it in <head> part.)
