It may or may not have been mentioned...

I don't have time to go through this thread - perhaps as well don't have the patience given the many "mean" XOOPS thread I have read in the past 3 months (I used to visit XOOPS many times a day - now, maybe three times a week - kind of sad as I think about it). Anyway, nice to see a thread actually looking at doing things to meaningfully improve xoops. So, if someplace can be dedicated to the XOOPS community as a whole, maybe regional meetings, the forums in general, php. It may have been intended to inlcude this in the lounge. Just a thought. As I said, it may already have been suggested. Good for whoever did so.

Which XOOPS version? Have you tried the captcha facility in the newest Frameworks?

Quote:

Dot5Hosting agent first responded that they do not allow XOOPS due to server restrictions. When asked why, the response was that the person thought XOOPS used relational databases which was not supported at dot5.

When conveyed that my site built on XOOPS will only use their MySQL databases, I was told that it will be supported. That was interesting.

Occasionally, things intervene that show us that Providence was watching out for us. The above quote reflects that such was your situation, putester. Imagine having a host running your web site who forbade relational databases, but - when told that XOOPS used MySQL - said, "Oh, that's okay." Clearly, they missed the idea that MySQL is a relational database.

Similarly with the other host who said:

Quote:
But they support Mambo, phpbb, phpnuke and wordpress.

None of them have particularly better security history than xoops.

Yes, Fate intervened to save you from the Lower Hell of dealing with hosts who have not the slightest idea of the difference between their head and thei.......

My host does a great job and has since 2003 for our site.

Hi, Kris (or anyone else playing with Morphogenesis):

I'm having fun playing around (trying to understand) all you've done with morphogenesis. I was adjusting the globalnav.html. It appears the link titles come from the smarty construct. But, smarty's names for the modules don not appear to be taken from the database. For instance, I change a globalnav.html line from Quote:
<li><a href="<{xoAppUrl modules/xcgal/}>" accesskey="" title="<{$smarty.const.THEME_MODULE3_DESC}>"><{$smarty.const.THEME_MODULE3}></a></li>
to Quote:
<li><a href="<{xoAppUrl modules/wordpress/}>" accesskey="" title="<{$smarty.const.THEME_MODULE2a_DESC}>"><{$smarty.const.THEME_MODULE3}></a></li>
.

The globalnav menu still shows Gallery even after having made this change. It should show Blogs, for that is the display title I have given that module in my XOOPS installation. I cleared out the cache (xoops and my browser). It's still there.

Where does Smarty keep these titles or come up with them from? How can I change the link title?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks, kris_fr!

I will work on it.

I am so pleased with the look and features of my site. The content has always been good (though we make nothing off it). But the site was always limited by what I might describe as basic designs and templates. I don't have the time or skills to get too deep into the coding, css, etc. The recent improvements to XOOPS design by you and several others have made it possible for my site and others to have a more professional look and feel (IMO anyway). It is deeply appreciated.

I am proud to keep the credits there. I just want them to show in the right way!

Thanks again!

Mike D.

I am really excited by the continued development of the Morphogenesis templating/theme/whatever it is. I really don't understand it, but dang if it don't work great.

One issue I have had and continue to have is that on the footer, there is a design notice for xooFoo that appears built into the themes. It interferes with the footer which I have which is pretty large (a long disclaimer due to the nature of my work and site). I would like to know how to move the theme design notice out of the way or further down. I think credit should be given and am happy to do so - to xoops, to fris_fr, etc. But, I don't want it to interfere either with the footer.

Any ideas about how to move it down/out of the way?

Thanks!

You apparently already tried to install it once and it set up in MySQL that table (and likely others) which are part of the xbs metatags module. Whe you try to install it right now, that table is already in place so your error message is trying to tell you that it doesn't want to overwrite the table that's already there with a new one by the same name. That table - Quote:
gasprice_tags_track
- is already there.

Using either phpmyadmin or perhaps your web host's control panel MySQL interface, you need to get rid of that table and any other table that are uniquely used my XBS meta tags. Then try and reinstall it again.

You did back up your MySQL didn't you? You need to do that before you try this. It's best to use phpmyadmin.

Again, back up your database...

Herko:

Thanks for your replies. I tried to follow the template laid out here. If I do any more reviews, is there some way I should rephrase it to make it less confusing? I want to make this as useful as possible.

JAVesey:

I understand. It does look a little confusing. As noted in my reply above to Herko, I was using the template that was requested. That template has quotes around the descriptions. There were two places I did use quotes but the long description was mostly mine. I felt the summary on the SmartMail site gave the best short summary, which is why I quoted it. But, I'm always glad to hear your comments!
