If you already have a big gallery in place, I really don't know if you would want to switch. Currently I am using XoopsGallery (http://www.xoopsgallery.org) and I have no complaints. When I tried updating to 2.2, I lost some info from it, then I reverted back to 2.0.13 and had to fix it. Didn't take that much effort...all I had to do was rebuild the MySQL DB from a dump I had made. All is well now after about 5 mins of work. I would recommend XGal to ANYONE!

I agree whole heartedly with Herko. 2.2 did some actual damage to my site and the way I wanted it to look. I was smart, though, and backed everything up before I updated.

2.0.13 is STILL the most stable version.

Hope this helps!

unfortunately, I don't think phpinfo will work on GoDaddy due to the fact that they have php_safemode=yes!

Lame, I know, which is one of the reasons I got out of their grasp. Another thing - Will XOOPS work on a safe enabled host?

To learn the root of your GoDaddy account, I can't remember whether I emailed support or if I found it in the faq, but it WAS one of the two.

Hope this helps!

Re: Reorder mainmenu

Your menu will reorder itself depending on what 'rank' or order you assign in the Modules Admin

Example:

I install XOOPS 2.0.13. By default, System Module (renamed to Home) is AUTOMATICALLY set to 0 and will ALWAYS appear on the top of the menu.

I also decide to install both xoopspolls and xoopsfaq.

However, I want xoopsfaq to be BEFORE xoopspolls on the main menu, so what I would do is go into Module Admin...

---> Hover over System and select Modules.

Now, I noticed that on the right-hand side it has a column header that says Order. xoopsfaq is set to '2' and xoopspolls is set to '1'

So, what I would need to do is set xoopspolls to '2' and xoopsfaq to '1' and click the 'Submit' button on the bottom of the list of modules.

After I confirm the change, I should then be able to go back to my homepage and see xoopspolls now AFTER xoopsfaq, just like I wanted.

Hope this helps!

Re: Anyone use hosting by GoDaddy.com if so, how the HELL do you create database users?!

I USED to have GoDaddy for hosting. I found that the username and password for your databases are your GoDaddy username and password. The EXACT same password you use to FTP into your server. Try that, if it is not right you should contact a GoDaddy CSR.

I made my own 'games' module that I am using with no hitch whatsoever. If you would like to see it, I can PM you. If interested you can edit it with dreamweaver to your heart's desire to BECOME your Portfolio...it's easier than you might think! Let me know!

If you aren't well-'versed' in html design, I would be more than happy to help you out...

If you would like my birthday mod, let me know...I'll take it straight of my site, without the DB of course...all you need to do then is upload it to YOUR modules dir... Sound easy enough?

- No renaming
- No modification needed
- No translation needed (assuming you use english)
- Nothing to 'fix'

Up to you...let me know

I was smart about the whole thing...as soon as I saw that 2.2 was available, I backed up my DB and my pub_html dir so that if I didn't like what was about to happen, I could just reupload everything and be right back to how it was. So I tried 2.2, realized that the whole theming system was changed, not to mention that the generation of blank pages really got annoying... So...I tried to take a look at the css files to try and get my colors back...a lot of things had changed in the css settings and there were NO comments in the file to give a clue as to what did what, trial and error time I guess. Got my theme running the way I wanted (which means I made Fydarkblack 2...lol. So fydarkblack was working fine. 3 modules I had installed were completely lost within the new Xoops. These are three modules I cannot do without, so that was the determining factor. I see here that the blank page issue was caused by gzip...so THAT annoyance I could have fixed, but as for the modules prob, no way.

BOOM! Uploaded my XOOPS 2.0.13 site and DB and now my site runs perfectly yet again.

Note to EVERYONE that updates ANYTHING from ANY version: BACK IT UP FIRST!!!

Edit : In retrospect, perhaps I didn't give 2.2 enough time...but, how can I go from a stable release with NO problems to a stable release with (in my case) more problems than I would like to handle on my own? 20 minutes was my timelimit. If I couldn't get the modules to work, I didn't want the uber new! LOL

How about the ability to sort modules in the admin side of xoops? For instance, I have 27, yes 27, modules installed on my instance of xoops, but I only USE (in my menu) 9 of them. For some reason, XOOPS has a random method about sorting those installed modules. What a hindrance!

Just to test this out, tonight I did a personal clone of a games module I made. I copied it, uninstalled the original, and then installed them both...one right after the other. TADA! The one that I had named Games2 showed up at the 3rd spot on my modules list while the original that I had renamed (so clever) as Games1 showed up on the bottom of the list. ....um....huh?!?!

Anyways, my point is that things would be MUCH easier to manage on a site that had SOME form of order that the Admin could choose! I not only want the Module list ( hover over System > Modules ) sorted, but I would also like the order of the modules that have admin prefs sortable as well. If I make it hidden, move the damn thing to the end or the beginning of the list!
