Hard to help out when you don't know what areas need help, you can't submit code, you can't view the code, you can't check out nightly builds to help test..

So how are we supposed to help now?

LB, I don't disagree with everything you're saying, but I do disagree with the way you are saying it. Your making it sound like it is some big conspiracy that the XOOPS dev team are deliberately taking steps to keep users in the dark. I think you'll find that it is just a servere lack of helpers. If there were just 1 out of every 1000 members that would help out to the same level as the existing XOOPS team are now, then XOOPS would be in a much better position. Instead it is much closer to only 1 out of every 5000 that are stepping up to take on an official role.

Uh..

That's a great idea, move CVS off a public forum to some dark area that noone seems to know about. I'm sure you can see how that makes a lot of sense.

I'm sure you are keeping bugtracking on SF or are we wasting our time posting bug reports there as well?

We have changed our versioning system a few months ago. Skalpa will explain it to you soon. SF's CVS is no longer in use.

Ugh,

https://xoops.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=44119&forum=8&post_id=194962#forumpost194962

As you can see I have asked repeatedly asked where it is. If it is NOT the information on the front page please update it to the CURRENT CVS information.

LB,you're right, we are definitely not good at communication. Skalpa will remedy that point soon with concrete work. Thanks to him.

Ok,

How about you POST these requests on the front page so *EVERYONE* can see them and try to contribute, right now it's buried in a 10 page thread that has gone off topic. This thread was orginally about joomla, but what the real issue for XOOPS has nothing to do about it's code or features.

It has everything to do with the lack of communication with the community. XOOPS is the most complete system front to back, but it's by far one of the worst to communicate changes and upcoming direction to it's userbase via it's website.

This needs to be fixed before it gets much worse.

The Core Team is awake. They do hear the community. Much of what has been mentioned here is being worked on in the background. However, there are only 12 Core Team members and only a few dozen hands actively working on XOOPS. This is a big project and we don't have nearly enough people working on it.

I agree that this site really needs freshening up. If anyone can come up with a fresh, modern, W3C compliant theme that would be appropriate for this site, PLEASE do so! I cannot say whether or not it will be approved, but at least it is a contribution! [Hint: #189DE8 would be a wise accent color!]

If anyone can implement any of the features that have been mentioned, PLEASE do so! Then submit your code to the Core Devs. They will look at it as soon as they possibly can. If it doesn't get approved, don't take it personal! Only the Core Devs know the [code-level] direction XOOPS is taking. Your suggestion may not fit into the direction that XOOPS is taking, but at least you contributed!

//End Rant.... Again.

I'm following the link off the front page that has "CVS Information" all over it :)

Perhaps the link on the front page is wrong?

I'm not blaming anyone, I'm just saying that there seems to be a perception of not much going on, and fixing that should be easy if there is exciting stuff coming down.

I'll be looking forward to the news!

sorry silvrhand, i wasn't havin a dig..

in fact really u could kinda blame me for some of the lack of news. As i haven't had much time to do any of the news or WOX at all, and things keep cropping up.

i guess it's a wake up call, and i'll get my head together with david and get some latest news from skalpa and the devs etc regarding what's going on and then get a new WOX out.

Is that the CVS server, if not how are we supposed to help as testing/support of what's being worked on?

First off I don't know what that other poster is talking about with real XOOPS devel so please don't associate me with him.

What basically started me on this was the big post skalpa put in about 2 months ago:

https://xoops.org/modules/news/article.php?storyid=2602

I can understand that rl happens, but since that there has been only 4 support forum posts with no followups. None of the excitement that he has talked about.

I'm not blaiming anyone or saying that you should be spending 10 hours a day coding on xoops, I'm just trying to find out the future. I like the XOOPS layout/ease of use, but if it's not actively developed, well then what do we do.

EDIT:

Here skalpa talks about open communication is more beneficial than actions, which I totally agree with but yet here we haven't heard anything since. Surely you guys understand my side of it now?

Quote:
In normal language what does that mean ? That to communicate is more important than to act (in latine, communicare that is to say comm-unicare: how to give the one to the multiple, to the with (to share), or also what allows this with to give birth to the one). That the potential lies in the interfaces, the relations, in the protocols, and that these are the points we will focus on at first.

Herko,

Is this the right CVS link, I'm curious as if a lot of work is going on, I see nothing in the dev forums, nothing in the CVS log from what is linked as the CVS information from the front page.

This is what concerns me about XOOPS seeming to not be going anywhere in the last couple months.
