I have finally almost finished a conversion script for my site to bring existing data/userbase from phpBB2 into XOOPS/NewBB. I am generally very pleased with the result, had to do some 'firkling' of the BBCode, as phpBB2 seems to insert some identifiers into the code markup, i.e. [b] becomes [b:bbfc187f9].

Anyway, the only one I haven't been able to convert is the [list] tag, that we use extensively, as far as I have been able to ascertain (very limited PHP knowledge) XOOPS doesn't have an equivalent.

Firstly, am I missing anything? Is there a bullet list equivalent in XOOPS, secondly, if not, are there any plans to support it, or does anyone know a simple hack to add support for it?

Cheers

'user_password' change to 'pass'

So does this mean that the password encryption scheme is identical? If so, that would be a great benefit, as porting the user base is probably more important than the messages, as a fallback I could always lock the phpBB2 board and leave it available as an archive for reference.

Hi all,

I am looking to introduce a CMS based web site in place of our currently manually authored one onhttp://www.aqsis.com.

At the moment, from some testing and comparison, XOOPS is looking like the frontrunner. I really like the administration interface, and this is a major thing for me. The main reason I need to do this is that we have not been able to get someone to be web admin for the site, so the responsibility keeps falling back to me, but I'm a programmer not a web designer. Having a site that can easily be updated/managed online is essential.

The only thing holding me back at the moment; and this is an issue with all the solutions I have looked at, not just XOOPS; is that there is a very important amount of information stored in a phpBB2 database. I'd like to be able to transfer both user names/passwords and basic forum content, not worried about PM's and other things. I'm happy to do some manual fiddling, but need the bulk of it to be automated. Is there anything that could do this for me?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Paul Gregory

Mithrandir:

The thing is, during the discussion on IRC, Dave never once said,

writing a phpBB-to-Xoops import script is not something one can do in 15 minutes. It could take a couple of weeks, working on it full time.

he simply said, no, there isn't any such facility, then followed up with a comment along the lines of "if you could get some funds it could be done", "(hint)". Which suggested to me that he would be prepared to do the job.

Dave_L:

As I mentioned on IRC, I run an OS project myself, so I am well aware of the pressures it can create. However, not once in my 7 years of doing so, have I ever indicated to anybody who has asked for help with my project that they would need to open their wallet to get said help. And I've done things that have taken a great deal more than 2 weeks.

Never mind though, I don't want to get into any sort of support policy discussion, there are more important things to deal with. As I said I will post my request as a separate topic in this forum. I have since installed XOOPS locally and am very impressed with it so far, so I would dearly like to overcome the problem.

Cheers

Hmm, interesting idea, however on my first visit, my request for support was met with basically "I can help you if you pay me", not a good start.

I will ask here on the forums in a different thread for help to see if the people here are any more friendly and helpful.
