I'm a bit confused here about the news module that comes with the XOOPS distribution, the news 1.3, 1.4, 1.44 modules, and the spotlight module.

Does what you describe (placing an image at the beginning of a news sotry) require that news 1.3 or 1.4 or 1.44 be downloaded and installed? I'm using the news module that comes with the 2.0.13.1.

Secondly, this would be great if I could place an image at the beginning of a news story and an Icon created from that first image.

Does this in anyway work towards spotlighting?

I've read threads regarding the spotlight module.

What I want is for my "home" page to have the most recent news articles with a little icon (image file) that is relevant either to the category of the news item or relevant to the specific story itself.

Do I need news 1.44 AND the spotlight module to accomplish this? I don't have alot of categories, and am not picky about having spotlight pull from several different modules, only the news module.

I'd like the last 3 or 4 stories to be displayed with an icon, and a bit of text, and then a list of older news stories below that with links to the full story.

Thanks in advance for straightening me out.

Hi, I thought I'd repost these questions with a different topic name to see if anyone can answer the questions.

Is it possible to create a custom block, with a link and when that link is clicked on, the content will show up in the center block??

I want a static page for a contest I'm doing to show up in the center block. I want the "contest" link to show up in a block on the left hand column, but not necessarily be in the center block at startup.

Thanks!

Any idea of when that release might come out and what the release version is going to be. This functionality would be incredibly useful for turning an existing PHP/MySQL application into a XOOPS module.

Regards.

I did install XOOPS and have been playing around with it for about 3 days trying to get everything configured the way I want it.

I'm now ready to install the phpAdsNew. I'm assuming from your post above that it will copy the necessary tables to my XOOPS database, and that I can delete the old phpAdsNew database after the install is complete and I've tested out usage (and the fact that the tables are actually in the XOOPS database).

Is this correct, or am I reading it wrong.

Maybe, I'm missing something, but it would be nice if there was a way to make a poll not expire.

converting existing application to a module.

I have another post regarding converting existing apps to modules.

I'd like to repost to clarify what I'm asking.

I have PHPAds News installed on a site that does not have XOOPS installed yet.

I see that there is a PHPAds New module for Xoops.

If I installed Xoops. and I want to continue to use PHPAds New, would it be better to go ahead and install the module and try to use my existing database?

What would be the benefit of using a module versus just running the existing PHPAds New install?

I have the same issue with a PhpBB 2.06 install.

I have found a phpbb to PHPbb Module converter for that though.

Regards.

Your post makes perfect sense.

Maybe I need to clarify the question.

I already have PHPAds New installed and running on a site that does NOT have XOOPS installed yet.

I am wondering what would be the benefit of running PHPAds New as a module versus what is already there?

Hello,

I already have a site running. I have polling software, PHPAds New, and a custom applet.

I'm strongly considering installing Xoops. I am wondering if this is going to make me throw away the work that I've alrady done.

For example. I already have the PHPAds New software running, and configured with live ads.

I saw that there is a module for PHPAds New. I've downloaded it, but I was wondering if I have to uninstall my PHPAds New install and install XOOPS and the module for it, or if I can install Xoops, and somehow configure my install as a module??

Thanks in advance for your help?
