Thats an understatement, I use firefox 2 under XP, and the text renders over the other text, almost unreadable...

The tool itself looks ok, although its a bit sluggish for me before its gets loaded and done.

Well,

I couldnt find anything wrong with xoops, so I closed the webserver and the database (mysql) and repaired the databases.
After starting up again, everything worked as it should...

I had it up to long I guess...
/usr/local/mysql/bin/myisamchkMyISAM file /usr/local/mysql/var/imagine3d/session.MYI
/usr/local/mysql/bin/myisamchkwarningTable is marked as crashed
/usr/local/mysql/bin/myisamchkwarning2 clients is using or hasn't closed the table properly
/usr/local/mysql/bin/myisamchk: error: record delete-link-chain corrupted
Wrong bytesec:   0-  0-  0 at      60852; Skipped
Wrong bytesec:   0-  0-  0 at      60852; Skipped

The session table was the culprit...

Hmm, i just figured what addresses he came from, two so far, and denied them in the webserver...
Order allow,deny
    Allow from all
    Deny from 72.36.233
    Deny from 82.208.60

I must look into these protection modules...

I assume they check to see that the session is using the login ip at all times?

also, som kind of imagecheck on registration might slow them down a bit...

I have these idiots on my site from time to time to...
I simply figured out the true ip he/she came from from the access logs and denied those ip ranges

The user masks his ip, by using one ip, the true, to set up the comment post, then using fake ones to post with...
My site isnt to busy so its easy to spot the pattern in the logs

I havent tried the security suite, but I might do that in the near future, I assume that will at least see that the same session id uses the same ip during the session.

I have the exact same trouble since a few days...
no changes in code and my site wont let me log in.
it accepts the user and password, thanks me for logging in and then returns me to the start page as an anonymous user...

using live headers I can see it calls user.php with the righ user and password and the xoops_redirect=%2F&op=login as usual...

How can I track down whats gone awry?

My site IS active and payed for, so thats not the trouble...

Well,

He has spammed my site a few times now, I have removed the spam and tried to backtrack him for abuse reports...

He think he spammed me from 72.36.233.67 although he masks his spam from many different IP's, I see some strange behaviour from another IP in the apache log.

this is an excerpt from ONE spam post...
72.36.233.67 - - [20/Jun/2007:03:55:45 +0200"GET /modules/news/article.php?storyid=28 HTTP/1.1" 200 10547 "http://www.imagine3d.org/modules/news/article.php?storyid=28" "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.01; Windows NT 5.0)"

72.36.233.67 - - [20/Jun/2007:03:55:46 +0200"GET /modules/news/comment_new.php?com_itemid=28 HTTP/1.1" 200 34074 "http://www.imagine3d.org/modules/news/comment_new.php?com_itemid=28" "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.01; Windows NT 5
.0)"

61.232.61.43 - - [20/Jun/2007:03:55:55 +0200"POST /modules/news/comment_post.php HTTP/1.0" 200 779 "http://www.imagine3d.org/modules/news/comment_post.php" "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.01; Windows NT 5.0)"

61.232.61.43 - - [20/Jun/2007:03:56:00 +0200"POST /modules/news/comment_post.php HTTP/1.0" 200 779 "http://www.imagine3d.org/modules/news/comment_post.php" "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.01; Windows NT 5.0)"

basically you see him accessing the article from 72.36.233.67 and then posting two comments from 61.232.61.43 which is a fake address...

His ISP has left no comment...

this pattern repeats for every spam on my site btw, access from .67 post from a fake a few seconds after

The user was registred as zxc10109 with email zxc10109@felissilvestriscatus.info and weburl same as mentioned before

added info...
He has already tried to access my site a few times since the block... I hope I havent blocked an innocent user, but such is luck...

.67 and .69 used for GET and POST logins from .70
all posts from random addresses...

Have you tried removing and reinstalling the module?

does thwe webserver have the rights needed to do its stuff?

My info was up there
Non working system...
System:    SunOS retaliator 5.9 Generic_112233-11 sun4u
Webserver
Apache/2.0.48 (UnixPHP/4.3.5RC2
MySQL
:     4.0.17
Xoops
:     2.0.9.2 (fresh install)
NewBB2:    2.0.1 (patched)

Working system...
System:    SunOS krynn 5.9 Generic_112233-08 sun4u
Webserver
Apache/2.0.52  (UnixPHP/4.3.2RC1
MySQL
:     3.23.56
Xoops
:     2.0.9.2 (upgraded)
NewBB2:    2.0.1 (patched)

Looking at this I see that the versions are actually more recent on my faulting system, which probably is very natural since a productionsystem is usually left alone if security or peformance isnt an issue...

I can say this as an addidtional info.
It doesnt seem to have ANYTHING to do with xoops.
I have the exact same version of XOOPS on several different sites and on my other sites, it works fine.

My guess is that it is something in the underlying stuff that is wrong, but to find out what I would have to go through a lot of stuff in my different systems.

Today, I dont have that time, sorry to say.

I can say that the working system has a higher version of both php, MySQL and apache... of these the only one I believe could affect this is the php version.

When I have time I will try to upgrade the nonworking system one part at a time and see when it starts working.

as you can see from his post, I dont think that was the problem...

I have tried both with UTF-8 and ISO-8859-1 and both give the same result...
XML Parsing Errorsyntax error
Location
http://exelsior.sweden/modules/newbb/rss.php
Line Number 1Column 16:
<?
xml version="" encoding=""?>
---------------^

So it actually points to the xml version being empty, not the encoding.

with UTF-8 enabled and not, it gives the exact same fault...

in the template one can read
<?xml version="<{$rss.xml_version}>"
encoding="<{$rss.xml_encoding}>"?>

and in the code rss.php in the module...
if (!$tpl->is_cached('db:newbb_rss.html')) {

$rss = &newbb_buildrss();

$tpl->assign('rss'$rss);
}

so it seems those variables are not provided to the template from the newbb_buildrss function for some reason...
looking deeper I see that the include/functions.php DOES provide these variables, but I cant see that the templates gets them, perhaps it goes through the xml parser before the template is filled? Changing the template to try to get it to debug only gives other errors from the xml parser so it seems the parser processes the template in some manner...

Oh, BTW, freshly installed 2.0.9.2 with the newBB replaced with newBB2.0.1 and the patch for it.
