Hi there,

Does anybody know of any famous house-hold names that use XOOPS? Or any really big impressive sites?

I only know of Novell Forge. Are there anymore big names?

Andy

PS. Does anybody know the size of the Novell site?

Thanks for the reply Mith.

I wish I could, but I don't have time (hence the need to find developers!) I'll probably end up just putting RFQ's on my own website for the time being.

Hi Marcan,

I'm not sure there currently is something like that but some XOOPS developers are doing commercial projects ...

I know there isn't something like that... that's why this is posted in the "Feature Request" forum!

A "commercial only" area of the site would also help remove the common misconception that xoops.org is only about non-commercial work - which would be a step forward IMHO.

Anyhow I just found this posted in the FAQ over six months ago:

Quote:

Currently, the best way to identify XOOPS users who may offer contractual services is by checking and visiting links displayed in the signature lines in posts. There are future plans to list these services in a separate section on the site.

Does anybody know anything about such "future plans"?

Hi there,

Would it be possible to have a forum for commercial development, were people could post RFQ's or similar for commercial projects?

I suggest two areas:

- A place for commercial projects looking for developers
- A place for developers to advertise their services to companies

If there is such a place already for XOOPS work, please let me know.

Thanks,

Andy

LOL I've just discovered this thread. Very interesting as we have just had a native XOOPS module developed that supports:

1. Multiple registration/subscription types
2. Each type has it's own price (also free types).
3. All HTML is made through smarty templates
4. Generic interfaces to payment gateways (currently working with NetBanx)
5. Members are automatically put in a group after their credit card is charged (depending on what they have signed up to).
6. Each subscription can be set to expire after so many days/months.

But the coolest thing is that it supports custom profile fields for each subscription type, so that you can have a multi-page "wizzard" collect information from the customer depending on what he is signing up for. (Also supports mandatory fields, with edit profile for customer).

The problem is there are no admin pages - it's all done through a setup file that sets up the arrays. But it shouldn't be too hard to write the admin side. I just need to find volunteers.

You can see a live demo here:

www.helpmehelpmychild.com

NOTE: it's live so don't complete the sign up process!

The module cost a lot of money to develop. So am not sure how to release it. Any suggestions?

From the wf-projects website in March 2005:

Quote:

Liquid said:
I have just found out that John (Catzwolf) has been asked by the Mambo development team to join them and I believe that he has joined them. To me this is really a sad loss for the WF-Project Team and Xoops.

Scott

@John: If Liquid(Scott) and Catzwolf are both you, then what does the message above mean? (...apart from confusing the hell out of us all...)

Well, this beggars belief....

You even phoned me once as "liquid" and we talked about Catzwolf. So I personally feel cheated.

Also, the lies you've told the WF team about Catz, and the time we've all wasted chasing "Catzwolf" is going to make it very hard for anybody on the WF team to take you seriously again.

Sorry to say hard things.

Andy

Is there a way for the smarty include to automatically pick up the theme name? For example:

<{include file="<{$xoops_theme}>/theme_blockleft.html"}>

instead of

<{include file="default/theme_blockleft.html"}>

...but the above doesn't work! Any ideas?

Another idea of integration would be to place an alert or status icon that when you received a pm or reply to a post, this icon would light up. Clicking on the icon will take you to the respective forum. Of course, you do not have to have your email client up and running for this. Again, XOOPS is there making life easy.

I get the impression Rick is thinking more along the lines of the web services model, so that Mozilla and XOOPS can interact with each other using XML, SOAP etc.

By "end-user perspective" I didn't just mean the web-site vistor, I was meaning all the people who interact with the system. Or to be more specific; "Actors" in RUP/UML terminology. So "Content manager" and "Site vistor" are just two examples of Actors in the context of a CMS. I wonder if there are more....hmmm....

Quote:

- Content routing;
- Metadata;
- Workflow management;
- XML input and output;
- Global knowledgemanagement features;
- Probably lots more.

Good list! We should continue defining what they mean....
