Dear redhead,

Thanks for your help.

in my knowledge, most xoops site will have less than 5 registration a day. so if the admin get following option, that will help a lot to admin

1. There should be form/field on the registration page, where the user can write why s/he want to join the forum. The admin should turn off this field on the preference setting (though i don't see any reason why the admin would turn off this option).

2. when the activation request mail is sent to admin, the above custom message should be included in the mail so the admin can decide if s/he want to approve it or not.

3. on the mail to admin for notification, there should be following links
a. "Send activation link to User"
b. "Activate user".
c. "Ban this IP for future registration"

This will save a lot of time for the admin, as at present the admin need to login to the admin module, search the user and then activate it.

Re: What to do against fake users registering?

Sorry to dig out a very old topic.

I have similar issue, just to avoid, i have turned off the registration.

I have very less actual user( 1-2 per week), So want to provide a free text field say"Why do you want to join this forum" where the user can fill up the details and the admin can then read and decide to approve it or not.

I am not sure, if this field is already available on the default installation (I cant find it). Any suggestion or hint will be highly appreciated.

I am currently on XOOPS 2.5.3

Deepak

Dear Xoopers,

my site is getting a lot of spam registration and to control it, I have decided to moderate the registration process by adding a custom message that every user need to provide a text message for admin "Why do they want to join".

It would be great if the message can be included in the notification email that goes for user activation to admin(for admin approval). this message will help if the user is genuine or not.

Is it simple to achieve?

Best module for writing reviews

Dear Xoopers.

I need to create a website where the
1. members can write product reviews
2. viewers can rate the articles
3. write there own comment or experience on the product/services

I don't believe AMS can do all. I am ok to customise the code a little bit but not a lot.

Can anybody suggest the modules to choose from?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Mamba,

I just tried a fresh install with the above changes and the xoops_data/data folder as writable but i still get the same error ( i get a blank page in the middle of the installation process).

once again, i copied the secure.php file and it fixed the issue.

Not sure, what could be the cause.

Thanks Mamba,

That explains why, I am getting some different errors

Quote:

Warning: include(header.php) [function.include]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/deepak/www/xoops-2.5.4/htdocs/modules/profile/admin/deactivate.php on line 2

Warning: include() [function.include]: Failed opening 'header.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/opt/lampp/lib/php') in /home/deepak/www/xoops-2.5.4/htdocs/modules/profile/admin/deactivate.php on line 2

Fatal error: Call to undefined function xoops_cp_header() in /home/deepak/www/xoops-2.5.4/htdocs/modules/profile/admin/deactivate.php on line 3

I guess this for the same reason. I will do a fresh install and see if it works.

My environment details:
XOOPS Version XOOPS 2.5.4
PHP Version 5.3.5
mySQL Version 5.5.8
Server API apache2handler
OS Linux

Hi,

while installing the latest xoops 2.5.4 release. I got installation error, then i found
xoops_data/data/secure.php file was missing. I am not sure if it is intentional or a release bug.

I copied the secure.php file from xoops 2.5.1a release and it resolved the issue.

Note,
during installation, i made the following directory/files writable.
include/license.php
mainfile.php
mainfile.dist.php
xoops_data/caches
xoops_data/smarty_cache
xoops_data/smarty_compile
uploads/

Hope this will save sometime for others.

I am not sure, if it's worth having Xoops and the shop togather. If your requirement is just the shop, then you can verywell install any ecommerce apps.
